Coolant leak after turbo Install
I installed the VF-22 on the WRX over the weekend. Everything seemed to be OK. When i started the car it seemed to run. I let it idle for a while and watched for leaks. Didnt see any. Double checked that coolant was full in the resivoir over the injectors. Things looked good there. Took car for drive. At no boost (well under 5 psi) and under 3500 rpm with limited throttle everthing seemed OK. Decided to go to 1/2 throttle and 10 psi. Seemed OK, then got to stop sign in neghborhood. Steam coming from engine. Go back to house and open hood. There seemed to be a plethoria of steam coming from up pipe area. I could see coolant stains on up pipe. Took out flash light and started searching for leak. No luck. Re-filled coolant in resivoir. Made sure clamps were really tight on coolant hoses on turbo (top and bottom) and started car. No leak. Reved engine and held at 3500 RPM in neutral. No leak. Took car boosted to 10psi again. More steam!!!
Is there some other coolant line I am missing (not looking at that could be disconnected? When the turbo boosts does either one of the lines get pressurised? There are only 2 on the turbo that I can find. I purchased some more coolant line today and when I get home I am going to replace the lower turbo coolant line just in case there is something lame going on. Anyone have any other ideas?? Thanks!

If your VF-22 came with it's own coolant lines then you'll need to change the upper hose to the radiator fill tank. This hose will be too short. Also, remove the stock clamp on the lower hose(pass. side) and put a screw clamp on it. This should fix your problem right up.

After getting a new hose and attaching 2 pipe clamps to the end of it on the lower turbo it finally stopped leaking. I think I will have the shop look at it when I take it in to be tuned. Anyway. Thanks!

Had the same problem...its the coolant feed hose, the lower rubber hose you connect to the coolant line...guarantee you didn't replace the clamp...took me 2 months to find it, and was about to rip my turbo out...but i can almost guarantee you its the coolant line connecrung the the lower turbo hardcoolant line...its leaking from there, running down the hardline to the lowest point, then dripping on your up pipe, and oil drain tube.
