Default Back up camera install with Kenwood ddx374bt head unit question

Hey guys i need some help,

Got my kenwood cmos-130 99% hooked up. I ran the yellow composite from the back to the front of the car by fishing it through the trunk, under the rear seats, then under the black kick panels on the passenger sides. I then opened the side of the glove compartment and ran it through to the headunt.

On the camera side, i spliced the black ground to a ground (i believe is a plug and play harness for brake light if you have a wrx wing), and ran a wire to the black and red power cable hooked up to my reverse light bulb on the right tail light.

When i go in reverse my headunit does NOT automatically switch over to the back up camera screen. Im forced to hit the CAM button to view the screen.

It came to my attention the purple and white cable on the back of the headunit labeled “reverse” should also be connected to the power for the reverse harness.

To avoid running yet another wire from the front to the back of the car, is there a convenient spot i can hook a wire to that purple and white reverse cable from the headunit to a reverse cable that goes all the way to the back to the taillights?

If so, what color is it and where can i locate it??

Thanks in advance,
Raf

The 2012 WRX doesn't have a reverse wire in the wiring for the headunit. I believe there is a wire that you can tap in the floorpan if it comes to that.

Doesn't the video cable for your backup camera have the red power lead integrated into it? You can connect both that red lead and the backup camera power lead to the tail light. You'll use the red power lead on the other end of the video cable to connect to the headunit.

Unforntuately i had to buy the video cable separately which it did not come with the red cable. Sounds convenient though what ill have to is either run the cable from the headunit to the back of the car again or investigate that kick panel for a reverse signal that leads to the back taillight harness, thanks!
