Find some 05-07 STI BBS for dirt cheap in classifieds.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, I have a question:

My TMPS is lit up. How much typically does the Subie dealer charge for a TPMS reset for winter tires/wheels?

And I have a comment:

TIRE RACK rocks. TIRE RACK SUPPORT friggen rocks.

That is all.

First time driving with dedicated snow tires. Have a little over 400 miles on the blizzaks and they killed it with over 8 inches of snow from last night. They are spongy on dry roads but they are worth it if you have to drive in snow (which I caught my self driving around last night for the fun of it.)

Cool! What model? How much snow were you actually plowing through?

Avoid dealership for ANY service as much as you can. My local America's Tire (in your are probably Discount Tire) charges about 65 bucks. Given I live in OC, you can expect lower prices.

However, since you have a '14, they could use the one that is on already. It depends on how what condition TPMS is in. I put new tires on the same day when I picked her up last Sat (@6mi) and it was just swapped. No lights.

Generally good advice. Chaplin Subaru in Bellevue (east of Seattle, SE of me) is $24.95.

Sorry to thread jack but currently running 235/45/17 tires on my 04 wrx, and looking to purchase winter tires. I have someone offering to sell me a set of 225/50/17 winter tires. Im concerned about the first number (225). Will these tires fit on my current setup which is using the 235 mm width?

They will fit, but what kind of tires, how much wear, what price, etc?

So they will just need to be stretched out a bit? Right? They are continental somethings.. Forgot the exact model of tire but the guys selling because the tires were rubbing on inside of fender so he opted for another new set. His loss my gain type of thing. 6k miles & Price is right also. And to clarify the tires hes selling are 225/60/17

What about 205/50/17? Is that asking for too much of a stretch? Currently running stock 2010 wrx wheels on my 04 sedan.

Wait.

First you said 225/50/17. I am not sure a 225/60/17 will fit. Maybe too tall.
My advice now is to consult the Tire Rack website. You will get a more definite fitment recommendation.

They are 195/60R-16 Bridgestone Blizzak WS60. They will only get better once they get a little more worn. First time ever owning snow tires and I will own a set from now on. We got 8" over night, it was powder until the morning it got chopped out into hard pack. Both situations were more than fine.

run your sizes through the calculator to see just how much larger they are.

225 60? pretty unlikely to fit. 205 50 is more realistic.

I have two people offering me tires, one offering 225/60/17 & the other selling me 205/50/17.. Since i am currently running 235/45/17 i was wondering if either of these will fit. Thats all. I know the first one mentioned might be too tall and might rub on mine since its lowered a bit.

Picked up a set of rims and tires. Going to run the 235/45/17 Blizzacks for winter. Was going to order from tire rack, but had a local shop match their price. Couldn't pass it up as I don't want to have to change out tires in -20 conditions. Everything should be in and installed by Wed.

I'm looking at a set of 16x5.5 wheels to put some winter tires on, and I'm trying to decide on what section width to go with. Ideally I'd like to be able to swap these between my '02 Impreza and '07 Forester without too much difference in diameter either way.

Stock '02 Impreza tire size is 205/55R16
Stock '07 Forester XT Ltd tire size is 215/55R17

I'm leaning towards a 205/60R16, but I'm concerned that the 205 section width would be a bit too much for a 5.5" wide wheel.

My second option would be 195/60R16, what do you guys think?

Looking for a quick winter set up for my 2013 WRX. Will a 16" 5x100 (205/55-16) off a 2.5i Saabaru fit ok? Anyone know of any issues fitting over the brakes? Thanks

How are run flat winter tires? For a car like the Hybrid that doesn't have a spare tire, it seems like it might make sense.

Dammit, thinking about picking up a third set of rims/tires, now with proper I&S rubber, on some rims that would be easy to clean snow off. Cleaning stock STI BBS rims is a pain in the butt. Naturally, the minute I order those, it will warm up and stay above freezing for the rest of winter.

Default Nokian WR G3- Further Review

I have posted on the Nokian WR G3 tires before, as I put these on in late October of the past year, removing the Yokohama Avid S30Bs that came on the car. I knew from reviews that I had read that the stock Yokos were not well-regarded in inclement weather, and given the amount of driving I do in the course of a given year, I wanted something that would ensure greater grip in winter weather driving. My choice was between this tire and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS, but in the end, I went with the G3, and I've been a very satisfied customer. Now, with over 3,000 miles on the tires, I wanted to post a slightly longer review.

Having driven through two major snowstorms and this morning's ice storm, I really do think that these are good tires for someone who can't necessarily swap between summer and winter tires. They are also a good answer to the unpredictable winter weather of the Philadelphia/South Jersey area. Snow traction is very good for both acceleration and braking. I tend to be a conservative driver in the snow, and I've managed to trigger the vehicle stability control exactly once, and that was as a result of me taking a corner entirely too fast, plowing through a rather deep snowdrift, and momentarily triggering VSC. The Subaru's computer sorted things out quickly, and I was back on my way after only a moment of sideways drifting. True to Nokian's claims, there is great resistance to aqua-planing and slush-planing with these tires, as I experienced driving on an unsalted and unplowed highway a month ago. This morning we had a freezing rain event, and the roads were slick and ice-covered. I was pleased with how well the car remained composed, refusing to skid or slide on icy surfaces that were giving many other vehicles a great amount of difficulty.

The tires are very quiet, significantly quieter than the Avids that were on the car previously, and almost as quiet as the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus tires that I ran on my previous car, a Honda Accord coupe. There are some faults with the tires, the first being that they do follow the crown of the road rather aggressively, leading to a bit of steering correction as I drive. Nothing awful, mind you, but certainly it takes more focus to maintain a straight track than the grand touring tires to which I am more accustomed. Also, I have yet to test them on truly deep snow, as the deepest they have been in so far is about 6 inches of snow. They handled fine, but I would expect that in more severe conditions (such as those experienced in northern New England or the Midwest), a set of Blizzaks, Altimax, or Hakkapeliittas would certainly be a better tire choice.

Overall, though, I'm a very satisfied customer. I think if you can only run one set of tires year-round and are looking to prioritize winter driving over performance driving, then G3 is a really good tire. Just my $0.02.

I'm purchasing a 2014 WRX, which comes in on (est) Feb 25th. I live in the Chicago suburbs... it will most likely be below 40 degrees for the next 2 months (March & April) and there is a good chance it will probably snow at least once between those two months.

Obviously the WRX comes with summer tires... but are they really going to be that bad in the cold/light snow to the point where I may be putting myself in extreme danger? I am extremely competent driving in the snow.

I will definitely get new wheels and good snow tires for next season, but I am spending all of the cash I feel comfortable spending on the down payment for the car to get the payments low.

Will I survive these last two months of winter/early spring with the OEM tires until next season? If I take the OEM tires off, keep them until it's warm enough, will it really be that bad for the tires to re-wrap them on the existing wheels?

Looking for any suggestions here - appreciate any input, thank you!
