Funny time at the orange box store
So I would notmally take my 3/4 ton long bed truck down to the orange box store to get plywood and boards, but alas, it's a 2wd, and our steep driveway is a solid sheet of ice.
So, the Baja it is! I had 12, 8-foot long sections of 2x6 and 2x8, some other misc lengths, and 2 sheets of 4x8 plywood. The kid working there says.. "Well, i know we can put the plywood on the roof, but these boards are way too long for that bed.." 15 seconds and a "go-go-gadget Baja!" later, and he syas "Wow, I had no idea these did that.. too cool.." It was only a 5 mile trip back home on side roads, so I did about 25mph to keep the wind from picking up on the front of the plywood., even though it was tied at all 4 corners... I would have done a much better job if I had to go faster or further. Anyway, thought you all might like the pics.. we love our "truck-let"! (Yes, I know it's dirty, but this is central PA in winter.. it gets washed weekly, and takes 5 miles to look like that!)

Baja's are very useful trucklets! To this day, I still get asked "what is it?" and "where can I get one?"

Yup, it works just fine that way. I had to resurface my mother's deck last summer. 36 5/4 by 8 inch decking boards 12 feet long. It took two trips but I did it! I did, just to humor the cops, drop the license plate down. It was wonderful to be able to drive right up to the deck in the back yard and unload 3' from the deck! I've hauled a new washer AND dryer in it, and 20 rolls of sod. The sod came close to overloading the poor thing however. I'm sure it was well over 1,000 pounds. The Baja makes a fine small truck.

And it is one of the cool things that actually carried over from the STX concept car.

It seems as though if the plate hinge is restricted in its motion when you lay the gate down, it gets stuck on the bumper...

Yeah, I have hauled washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, you name it, and never had a problem. You can do quite a lot with such a little setup! Keep it under 90, folks! |

It's a legal issue, I've never had a problem with my hinge.
I only haul two things, Autocross tires/supplies and ass. The swear filter will probably get me on the 2nd one. |

I've thought about leaving the tailgate down but the plate up to avoid a toll road or 3 before..

Nice! I love pushing the limits on what a vehicle can do for hauling/towing. Should have seen my '02 Jeep Wrangler with one of those hitch-haul cargo basket inserts on the back one day. What was in the cargo basket, you ask? Why a FULL SIZE refrigerator, that's what! Top down, strapped to the cargo basket and to my spare and roll bars, it made a 60 mile trip home. woowoo!

I got all the wood to build my deck at the same name box store and hauled it all in my baja. People really do look...especially when people with full size trucks see you load 12 80# bags of cement in the back.
