Default Anti-Knockback springs on Brembos

Im putting Brembos on my car, all around. Brandy new 5x100 hubs and bearings up front.

I know what pad knockback is, not necessarily something I'd want.

Today I found Performance Friction AKB 6# Springs on HRPWorld.

How bad of an idea would this be on a street driven car thatll see HPDE duty?

I know that the brakes will be essentially dragging all the time, but to what extent?

It's not bad at all. We did it WAY back in the day when we put brembos on tony's 04 WRX.

Grab a seal kit while you're at it and refresh the calipers since you'll already have them apart.

Yup, Centric seal kit on the way. Just waiting for the dogbones from KNS.

The springs are pretty cheap too..$6-8 for a 4 pack.

Now, do I want them just in the front or rear too?

I would also like to know if the front is enough?

The front is all you really need.

Bringing this back from the dead....

I'm going to be redoing the caliper seals on my Brembos, and though I'd add anti-knock back springs while I'm in there.

http://www.hrpworld.com/store/defaul...k+Back+Springs

These come in sets of four... do I use a spring in every caliper piston (8 total for the front)? Or just in one caliper on each side (4 total for the front)?

Also, I'll assume the larger size spring will be the one I want.

Yes you would want the larger ones because the pistons sizes of the brembos are larger than 36.5mm.

For the caliper seals, I would go with the OEM Brembo ones. Centric seals don't quite fit right.

Yup, larger ones, and you'll need 8 total.

And Echo on OEM Brembo seals because the Centric ones suck.

Not worth it, IMO. I saw a significant MPG decrease.

Thanks, didn't really think about the mpg. I was just thinking about brake drag.

Well, yeah. The brake drag is what eats the MPG.

And I didn't see any difference when switching from brembos (no springs) to ap racing (with springs).

I can still spin the wheels by hand. I doubt there is that much drag.

On my bugeye, the difference between AKBS loaded Brembos and no AKBS loaded Brembos was 3-4MPG. I wanted to test on the dyno but never got around to it.

Looked around on different sites and it looks like they have a lighter spring 2-3#

Hate bumping an old thread but don't want to start a new one.

Anyone know where I can find AKBS for the Brembos? HP Eacing doesn't have anything listed in their site and I'm getting sick of tapping my brakes before I need to brake. Would need them for the GD calipers.

Re-resurrecting this thread, sorry bout that. Feel like this could be relevant still.

In my search for some anti knock-back springs as well, I happened across some on Zeckhausen:
https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/i..._217_7351_7353

Seems like they offer some ranging from 0.75 lbs to 6 lbs, and the manufacturer is listed as Stoptech.

Any thoughts on these? Think these could work for Brembo Fronts? If so, I assume the 38-46mm option?

Which force (lb) option do you think would be needed as a balance between daily and track driving (with some very hard braking zones)?

It is not recommended to use anti knock back springs unless the caliper was designed to be used with these.
When they are used with designs not intended for anti knock back springs you will experience situations where the piston remains pushed too hard against the pad, and also times when the piston does not push out enough to eliminate unwanted pedal stroke.

I have the same sentiment as well too not to long after posting and calling it a day. Figured I'll just deal with the knockback the old fashion way.
