Default Tow hook question

I have an aftermarket tow hook on the back of my sti (for hauling, etc.)i want to remove....it looks kinda ugly and is starting to irk me. I'll never use it.The previous owner installed it.

Has neone ever removed one of these? Or is it something i should take to the dealer to get removed?

you mean a tow hitch?

either way tow hook, or a hitch, all that stuff is usually always bolt on, slide uder your car and check first. if its bolt on just do it yourself and save money....The dealership will just overcharge you for a 5 min job you can do yourself

Yea i had some time this afternoon to look underneath. Looks good and bad. Good new is i think i can unbolt it, bad news is my left exhaust hanger holding up my borla muffler is welded on it, and if i take off the hitch, the muffler is only gonna be hung by the right hanger only. I'm gonna need that left hanger remounted and rewelded to the frame of the underbody.

Who the hell would tow something with this type of car neway

don't go cutting or welding yet! the hanger isn't really welded to it, it is part of it. almost all the hitches out replace the stock drivers side hanger. You should be able to get that stock part from a dealer for fairly cheap, it is just a small chunk of metal.

its a subaru... LOTS of people tow stuff! and maybe they didn't use it for towing, maybe a hitch mount bike rack. Personally my wrx has a trailer behind it in the summer about half the time. (I have 2 seadoos that get a lot of use)

anyway, if you don't cut it/destroy it to get it off (just unbolt it and keep it intact), you can sell it on here and probably come out ahead after buying a new factory hanger.

yeah that might be a LITTLE much...

up until '08, subaru's are rated for at least 2000 pounds of towing, 1000 pounds without trailer brakes. You just want to use common sense, don't blast down the highway with a 2000 pound trailer while pushing 10+psi for 30 miles at a time.

An autocrosser friend of mine (not Subaru) uses a tiny trailer for his R comp tires so he can drive to the auto-x on street tires and not waste the good ones on the highway.
