I did a BUNCH of Subaru Challenges back when I owned my SVX... Then the first year I bought the STi I did a bunch of events too... But competition has tapered off substantially since becoming an officer in the Army ... Seems like the fun days are taking a change ...

This friday I'll be driving to Fort Walton Beach to pick up my girlfriend (she's flying in to see me)... But I'm afraid I'll be very busy so another weekend will probably work best... I'll be here for (god help me) 15 months atleast, so we'll catch up sometime man!

And "insane restrictions and laws and emissions"?? You do know those (and I can't think of any law off the top of my head that is "insane") laws and restrictions and emissions are there for one main reason. SAFETY... Public Safety, Personal Safety and Environmental Safety...

EVER SINCE I have moved here to this retarded town of Enterprise, AL people have been burning trash and all sorts of crap ALMOST DAILY!!! Yeah those of you that are here and are used to it are thinking "whatever, big deal"... But someone like myself, I am extremely allergic to that ****, and am sick and congested almost NONSTOP... Do I really need to go into detail about how much pollution THAT is releasing and what kinds of bad stuff is in it? And I'm not talking clean pollution (like what comes out of the back of a car, that is relatively clean), I'm talking about all sorts of heavy metals, VOC's, POM's to name a few. That's what you're smelling when you smell burning plastic, treated wood, and many other things I smell everyday in the morning when I go to PT - where I just came from (google chemistry of air pollution if you are interested)...

So I can see that when someone (or a group / area / state / etc.) lives in unregulated ignorance any form of "control" or "restriction" is immediately seen as insane or even "un-american"... But really? I mean I know the topic of toxicology and man-made chemicals better than most, but you don't need a degree in Environmental Sciences to understand that certian things (MOST man-made) are not good for your health, the health of those around you AND the environment in which you live...

In closing I'll get back on topic... Yes you're right, probably the hike in insurance that I experienced when I came here to a town of what, 30,000 (maybe) from a city / area of nearly 1 million is not all down to drivers. I'd even speculate that alot of it is down to this being a military town. And military people tend to blow ALOT of $ on their cars (I've seen enlisted soldiers living in nearly sub-standard housing, rolling around in $50+k BMW's and Merc's). Who then turn around and crash them. So one reason the insurance rates in this area are high is probably because the average claim cost is higher per person... Fair enough...

But really though dude, I'm coming from North Carolina, NOT California (yes, if ever there was a state I WOULDN'T want to live in because of STUPID regulations and all sorts of crap, THAT is the place). Our laws in NC are strict, but the population and environment benefits from having emissions restrictions. And if the argument is regarding the extra 5-10% (MAYBE) power that a CAT-less car would make over a CATed car, they can keep that little bit. I'm not racing from point to point where I go so I could care less about all out power in a street car... But then again, I can see that if people were used to living without restrictions on them that they would be alittle hostile to change that would help out EVERYONE as a whole... But screw your fellow man, ignorance is bliss... If anyone has that mindset, then sadly that is an attitude that will severely limit the progress of human kind, and indeed the entire planet... Even the bible, which is probably more highly regarded and read down here in the "Bible Belt" (and I am NOT anywhere near religious - therefor I am most certainly the anti-Christ to the vast majority of the people in the area here ) than modern scientific studies and REAL WORLD issues, says that you are to "love thy neighbor"... Meaning to care for, treat with respect everyone...

Damn I got off topic... But the point I was trying to make is that the excuse you listed about this area being "a major area for freedom thinking and as opposed to have insane restrictions and laws and emissions and all that crap", just doesn't fly... There are no excuses other than laziness and ignorance... (can ya tell I don't like Alabama at all? ... Don't worry, I'll go back to NC as soon as possible)
I hate this place too... But I think long rants about how the inhabitants are lazy and ignorant are inappropriate, especially coming from an Army officer. The area isn't a hotbed for smog, and I haven't seen any burning whatsoever the entire time I've been here. It sounds like you picked the wrong area to live. I can see forcing manufacturers to fit vehicles with catalytic converters, but I think it's retarded to punish the few who care about the power they make for taking them off, especially considering the fact that even without the catalytic converter(s), an STi probably has less emissions than an unmodified hummer.

Yeah, you might be right there Raul ... I kinda have a rather loose connection between my head and my mouth... I also have a tendency to not hold back when I have something to say (must be the Marine in me trying to get out) ...

Either way, my post was alittle harsh so I apologize if it offended anyone. It was meant (in my wierd way) to inform / argue a point rather than personally belittle any member on here.

Well it was a little harsh, I understand the frustration though, my opinion still stands though. As for the burning, I have not seen that, you must be around some real trash people. I know farmers will sometimes use a tire to keep a diseased cow burning until it is gone, maybe that is it. I will also be willing to bet that there is less pollution in Alabama per capita than in NC.

I come from a place where there is nearly zero pollution. Also, there are a lot of restrictions on weapons, vehicles and other things. Life is still great and I know that place as home, but coming here helped open my eyes to government involvement in our lives and what is good/not good for the government to well govern. I live in Daphne, and I can tell you, you will not see ANY of what you talked about here, maybe a lot of soccer moms, buts thats about it.

Anyone know about possible suspension options for a 1998 Legacy GT Wagon? I am picking up a DD and the struts are almost definitely shot... Wouldn't mind something alittle sportier than stock, but it will be a DD, so it has to be comfortable ... Thanks
