Please help !! Rear end popping sound while accelerating
What's up guys. So I swapped in a 2004 sti drivetrain into my 2003 Bugeye. It ran great and still does. But for w.e reason I get this clunking/ popping sound coming from some where in the rear end (sounds like driver side) when I accelerate. It gets noticeably worse when there is 4 ppl in the car. It will go away sometimes when the car has warmed up for a bit. Sounds like someone is snaking my drivetrain with a mallet in a consistent way.
Almost all bushing have been replaced to polyurethane. And lateral links are all whiteline. I have apexi coilovers and whiteline sway bars with alloy sway bar brackets. I Just rebuilt the rear dif (r180) a couple months ago because I could have sworn it was the rear diff. But even after doing all that the noise is still there. Also just took apart the whole driver side rear end in hopes of finding something broken and saw nothing. The axle seemed alright. No ripped boots. The coilover seemed healthy (25,000 miles on them). The only thing I haven't changed are the bushings in the trailing arms or the rear wheel bearings. But the bearing seem to be in good condition and spin freely and have no play. I'm lost. If anyone has had this problem or has an idea please save me lol.

So this clunk started after the drivetrain swap, correct?
Were these parts OK in the last car? Were the coilovers swapped in at the same time? Let's assume the above is all "yes", have you checked torque on things like the rear subframe, pry on things to make sure they are actually tight and not just hardware that bottomed out or got stuck? |

No sir. The clunk started about a year after the swap. I already had the coilovers before the swap. Everything looks and seems ok. The noise goes away after some driving. Maybe not totally gone but not nearly as loud as when I first get In it. |

Since it's not a clunk going over bumps/potholes, and it's been fine, yes, could be an axle. I'm stil leaning towards a bushing is loose or possibly failing. Yes, let us know what happens with a new axle. |
