The WRX is definitely the more practical choice. That's why it wins for overall value. It does really well at a lot of things, but it's just not exceptional at any one thing. It's always been a two-edged sword with that car.

Personally, I'll never go back to one except under the guise of the Levorg if it ever comes stateside.

That's more creative than my answer.

Although one day turning off base I hit a patch of ice and spun out. Needless to say people have been asking "Who drives the blue BRZ? Tell him he needs to learn to drive."

I have yet to spinout in my BRZ with TC on. I've even started slipping when inputting too much throttle on the highway at about 70MPH and was able to recover quickly.

VSC Sport will get me VERY sideways sometimes on crazy bad ice.

Oh I always run it in VSC sport mode. I occasionally get a wiggle at a light but that is about it.

Yeah I recommend VSC Sport for most of the time, but I've been challenging myself to handle the car around town with TC on. Like, it's a game I play where I try to see how little I can make the TC light flash while also not driving like a snail. It's pretty fun! Otherwise if I'm in more of a hurry, I'll turn off TC and SC until I'm at a reasonable speed, then go to VSC Sport or TC on. It all switches so quickly that I don't mind making on-the-fly adjustments.

Bit of an older thread, but thought I'd drop my $.02. I had my BRZ for exactly 2 years, bought in July 2013 and sold it just a couple weeks ago. Owning and driving that car everyday was a blast. It was black, 6 speed, limited. The experience of owning a brand new car was awesome as well, but that of course isn't BRZ-specific. Would I buy it again? Not at MSRP, but I'd consider it 10 years from now if I'm looking for a cheap fun car to trash around, like a 240sx of today.

As a young male with no kids, it was a very practical daily driver (in socal... so no snow) that I got to take to the track a couple times and not feel bad about it.

Honestly, no. Don't get me wrong I loved the BRZ but when I cant afford a turbo kit and when a 30k dollar car cant beat a stupid minivan. just no. im sorry. I bought the car for the control etc. but eventually that got old.

I'm not sure about again, but I just bought my first BRZ yesterday. It's a 2013, and I *think* it is a limited. At least it is all kitted out with manufacturer doodads (touch screen, keyless ignition, blu-tooth, etc). Does anyone know how to tell what model BRZ I have, I'm just curious. I bought it for the driving, but the addons (I bought used) really are rather fun.

What I find interesting is that this 2013 feels like it has significantly more power under the hood as compared to a 2015 I test drove this summer. When driving it this summer, I thought "This is really anemic", but when I drove this one, it felt a lot more get up and go. I don't *think* it has been tuned, but I could very easily be mistaken. I know they are both 200HP boxers, but I wonder if something was wrong with the new one I test drove.

Congrats! The Limited has the keyless entry, push start, Alcantara and leather seats, seat warmers and side mirrors warmers.

Also a Twin broken in behaves way better than a new one. Mine is at 60k+ and pretty beast.

My only gripe is I have had bad luck with some little scrapes and a sortuv dirty hard life. I wish I could start over. Everytime I go for a backroads drive though I am reminded just how awesome this car is, A stock wrx just isn't going to be anywhere near as fun in the tight corners. A modified sti probably would be. Throwout bearing is fooked. Randomly I went for a hard drive in 36 degree weather and when I stopped to take a leak and spend 10 minutes bsing the car was very slow on it''s first turn over when I started it. No other issues or problems starting after that, maybe I left my lights on and the original battery is getting old? As a disclaimer I did 120 mile drive last weekend very early in the morning with frs and a golf r and it was just awesome.

I'd strip it out again too. Even when/if I have the funds to move on to a different, more capable DD sports car I suspect the BRZ will have a home, It's fun, looks great and I can make it as raw as I please and not feel particularly bad about it. Something I'd probably hesitate to do with a 911 or Cayman. Not many vehicles outside of a Miata are going to be able to get down to the weight you can get BRZ down to and owning a track slut convertible isn't really my cup.

I had a '14 BRZ for almost two years. It was a lot of fun to drive, but completely impractical for my use. My main complaint was the almost unusable backseats and the terrible traction the RWD got in the snow/ice (even with winter tires) To have this as your second car for weekends or joyriding, it's a great deal, but I would never buy one again as my daily driver. I traded mine in for a WRX. I still miss it on occasion, but I wouldn't buy one again. (Unless I became super rich or something)

Slower than a minivan :roll eyes: don't be stupid. I wonder why I don't feel inclined to return to the forums. No matter which car you buy all anyone can say is "well XXXXX car is better or cheaper or faster". The BRZ can keep up well with any of the the cars in it's price range through the corners. If you want straight line speed your car isn't a brz, or a wrx or STi.

I tend to think many people don't know how to shift properly, are too lazy to shift often, or just aren't taking their car to the limit enough. Most turbo guys think I've boosted or supercharged my car. Nope! Just a GrimmSpeed intake!

I've actually read complaints on this forum where people felt like they shifted too much to get the power they needed... I blame them for the manual transmission being unpopular, and I hope they enjoy their CVT WRX.

Considering how most people gripe about the torque dip... I'm going to lean toward people not knowing how to drive the car properly.
I'm obviously not saying it has to go to redline all the time, but most people won't or don't think they should down shift for power.

I'm sure I've said this multiple times already though

I'll admit I underestimate that torque dip at times. I either have to anticipate a situation far in advance or drive like a teenager who just got his license. For some reason driving "normal" just doesn't cut it.

I pass V6's all day.

Bought mine gently used as a CPO and it is a really great platform to do with as you please. It has all the elements that I desire low weight, LSD, and manual transmission. From there you can "tune" it to what you want from it. Much easier to put on a turbo kit/SC etc than make a 3500+ lb car feel light and nimble.
