Which part? I like kids well enough to morph into a jungle-gym every time I visit friends who have kids, but I don't want them to follow me home at night... My cars on the otherhand… They don't crap in the house, they don't talk back, they eat exactly what they're provided and never complain, they're (arguably) better to look at and they won't need to be taken to the emergency room at 2am on a Monday night, ever. Heart-holes filled (could make the same argument about my dog vs. your kids, )
As for the cost part we had a little discussion about this with my snowboard crew. One of our friends has a 2-year-old daughter and has been tracking his "kid" spending close enough to be able to give us a dollar amount straight off the top of his head. They're a well-off couple, so they probably spend more than necessary (what do I know about it, I've only got a dog...) but they're not doing wasteful B.S. like baby yoga either. $28,000 for the first year of life. Yeah, kids are more expensive (than MY cars + dog). Just playing devil's advocate and stirring the pot. Kids are cool, just don't leave them at my house, please. |

Getting way off, but I wish I could know you guys when you have your own kids. There is no feeling on earth even remotely close to holding your own child in your hands. At that point you are thankful to live your life for another person and know in an instant you would die for him/her.
Look, not belittling how much you love your project car or dog. They are great, but I get far more from my two boys than my 240Z, my STI, my 2000 Datsun Roadster, together could ever give me. There is no love like the love for your own kids.... Ever wonder how when people have kids vanish from your social circle. It is because having kids is life changing. Getting married is not really that much of a change. But kids re-prioritize your life. It will happen to you. |

That said, I didn't feel "it" until my kid was a little older. A crying whining baby is still a crying whining baby... but once that interaction starts and you realize you have a legitimate legacy when you leave this world that you get to help foster and develop, it's a feeling inside that you can't put into words... I feel for the people that just go to work every day to pay the bills, thinking that's what life's all about. |

it sounds like a cop-out, but you can't know what it's like until you have your own; I did the cool uncle thing for years before I had my own, totally different experience. |

Yes, I am geeky guy, who loves being a dad. When I see my 6 year old smile at my car and laugh when I get my 240Z sideways it is a very special moment Okay I apologize for taking us off course. I love my Ridgeline! |

Keeping things on topic, I considered a pickup, like a ridgeline, and it's still on the list of things that could replace the outback eventually, but decided to rent when necessary. I've been able to use the outback for all but once project. Last edited by dwf137; 04-11-2019 at 09:05 PM. |

well this thread took a very uplifting turn.
Back on topic, what ever happened to that MB pickup that was basically a tarted up nissan frontier? Looks like it's the X250d, and they're not selling it in the US... although the interior on that one is even still pretty utilitarian even with MB badge and pricing... |

Current truck craze is ridiculous, and agreed on shopping used ones. Would like a cheap weekend beater to haul stuff around and potentially plow with but can't justify the unreasonable expense. Nothing like seeing a 10 year old used Taco with 300k miles for sale for 10-15k

I honestly do not care if you ever have kids, in fact you probably should not. I sense great anger in you. |
