I have checks from two customers from this bank. I can't seem to find a location to cash them (I'm in chesapeake). All I'm finding via google seems to be from San Antonio, TX. Which won't work. Am I going to have to deposit these checks and wait for them to clear or what?

Yea, they don't have branches. Just cash them @ your bank. What's the problem?

Most likely you'll just deposit and wait for them to clear. Your bank should put a hold on them and, most likely, make $100 or so available immediately.

Checks don't take as long to clear as they used to, especially if your bank is truncating them (scanning and clearing them electronically instead of passing along physical checks).

One of the checks is for $14,000. I'm not about to cash a check only to find out three days later the funds aren't available.

1. Get USAA account.
2. Download plugin for [email protected]
3. Endorse and scan check, funds deposited immediately

Oh, your bank doesn't do that?

Your hosed. They have no branch locations to speak of. Im a customer of theres and they are pretty easy to work with. I use to make deposits at the UPS stores. I would give USAA a call and talk with them. Their number is on their website. There customer service over the phone is great. Im sure they would be more than happy to assist you. Call 'em.

You have a check for $14K and are trying to ensure the funds are available? Why wouldn't you ask for a cashier's check or something similar?

Honestly asking here.

My brother picked the check up. He called to verify the funds immediately, he just didn't inform me of it.

The longer you wait, the less likely you'll see the money.

Besides...I deposited a $17K check once. Was told when I deposited it that it would clear(came up fine), but due to the amount, my bank required 24-48 hours to be positive the other institution would release the funds. However, if the account had not had an available balance to cover it, they would have known right away.

Take it your bank, and ask them to verify the funds maybe? I've never actually had any luck with that, but it could just be the banks I used.

I'm just going to deposit the check. They told me of course they'd release 100 immediately, and that they would only hold it today, and tomorrow. Funds should be released Thursday I reckon.

USAA is good, use them all the time. No branches though. If you use their ATM card they refund you for something like $15 in transaction fees a month and obviously don't charge for using other bank's atms.

Agreed.

In fact, they DO have people in Norfolk area... but not a bank branch. It's all just online.

If you're a member you can deposit checks online with your scanner even. It's great! Instant money!
