Default 245/45/17x9 Question about rubbing...

I've tried to look around the site but couldn't find my answer.

I picked up 17x9 +37 wheels wrapped in 225/45 (yes, they're stretched) tires; they're currently on the car atm lowered on prodrive springs (barely any drop, has a lot of gap). This isn't the problem; right now it's time for me to pick up some new tires and I was wondering if I'd get any rubbing issues going with a 245/45 on Tein S. Tech spring setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; thanks!

you most definitely are going to rub with s-techs and 245/45s

buy better springs...rce yellows or swift rspecs.

Once you get some suspension that can handle, you then might consider the 245-40-17 instead of the much too tall 245-45-17. Though neither one is going to do very well on super soft, low low springs.

Yea, I was looking at pictures of the 245/40's and they would seem more ideal. Right now I have the Prodrive springs on so I don't have too much of a worry, but then I also have a set of S-Techs just sitting around as well.

I had 245/45-17s on stock 05 sti wheels and swift springs. I rubbed the left front every day when I made a hard right at the bottom of a certain hill. That was the only situation when I noticed it rubbing. I did trim the bumpstops, that may have been a factor. The tires looked noticeably bigger. I don't think 245/40-17s would look noticeably smaller.

Edit: That tire wore out way too fast. I would never buy that size again.

Edit again: I also have a GT Spec ALK. That could also be a factor I hadn't considered.

245/45 is not the height you would want to go with.... s-techs aren't the springs you want to go with either

coilovers and 245/40 or 255/40 with a nice rear roll and about -2 camber and you'll be fine all day... promise

In my 04 sti... with stock looking ride height *maybe dropped front 1 inch??* It DOES sit dead nuts even front to back wheel well. Springs are red, no name or anything. Struts appear to be stock

I stuffed some stock mustang gt tires on the stock 17x8 BBS's.. and they are 245 45 17, with NO rubbing at all. Tires have probably 50% left on them though. The tires look like drag radials, and fit the wheel well PERFECTLY. I mean you can't get any better. Perfect amount of space, perfect amount of fill.

Throw them in the garbage.

I had 245/45-17 NT-01's on 17x8 +48 wheels and it was very close to rubbing in the rear, and I did get rubbing in the fender well. This was on Swift springs. with 17x9 +37, you might rub in the rear.

245/45/17 hankook RS-2's are on sale at tire rack for a ridiculously low price. Im thinking about getting some for my stock STi BBS.

my car is on cobb springs that have a pretty decent drop. I also have 20mm rear wheel spacers and 15mm front wheel spacers...

I assume these tires are going to rub somewhere.. i dont really want to roll my fenders or anything.. how bad would you guys say it would be??

There's 245/45 & 245/40 tires are on sale, which is why I'm asking. I've had the 245/45 on my stock BBS with prodrive springs and I agree, they looked great on them. However, I wanted something just a TAD bit lower, but don't have the cash to spend on coilovers since I'm already picking up new tires.

I was thinking getting some type of reliable springs that'll give me an extra half inch drop opposed to the ones I have now.

Here's how the car stands right now; the tires on it are 225/45.

As you can see, there's A LOT of gap. I may just go with the 245/45 and keep it at the height it's already at.

Is that rear tire rubbing on the sidewall? I see a line around it but it might just be a shadow. Maybe you could get a ground control kit? I think it's like $400. Then you would have adjustable height and could choose a decent spring rate.

If you dont mind, I am going to jump in here as well.. I am on similar setup (Prodrive springs, RCE lowering camber plates, 245/45/17 RE01R's) and I do not experience any rubbing. However, I am thinking of going to a 17x9, +45 rim.... I will be putting the RE01Rs on there, and I am wondering if I will have any rubbing.

if you remove the spacers, then it prob wouldnt be bad at all... if it rubs at all. I dont rub, but i am on Prodrive springs.

No, I don't rub at all as of right now. The ring you see around the wheel is from the previous owner; he had a "flush" fitment and rubbed ever so often. I'm thinking on just going with the 245/45 and deal with the ride height until I can rake up some cash for some coilovers

the only rubbing i think you'll have is at full lock and under full compression up front, and possibly in the rear on the spring perch.

Get rid of the S-techs, roll your fenders and you can fit a 255/40/17 summer tire no problem! Then go get a performance alignment and enjoy it!

damn. i just bought those wheel spacers. and id like to keep them.

Im looking at the amount difficulty i will be facing by rolling my fenders, because i know im going to have to with 245/45's The stock tires rub occasionally with my setup.

at 71$ a piece for those R-s2 tires i may have to suck it up roll my fenders.

im hoping my car wont look ridiculous with that much tire in the wheel wells.

I have 245/45 17 x 9's on my bugeye and with Tanabe DF210 springs which sets it pretty low, it only rubs a little bit in the back. But I just got a hold of a fender roller so im takin care of it this weekend.
