Tesla's Model S is no longer recommended by Consumer Reports after problems with its touchscreen, suspension, and body hardware

Tesla has sunk to second-to-last place in Consumer Reports' ranking of automaker reliability, with its Model S no longer being recommended by the magazine due to ongoing reliability issues.

The magazine said its readers reported "ongoing problems with the air suspension; body hardware problems, specifically with the rear hatch/tailgate; the automatic climate system failing; and in-car electronics issues relating to the center screen freezing and/or needing to be replaced."

Despite the issues, Tesla's flagship sedan still ranks number three of 11 cars in Consumer Reports' "ultra luxury" category. Its road test scored 97 out of 100 total points, with the reliability issues responsible for a bulk of the score drop.

Now, the only Tesla that Consumer Reports recommends is the Model 3. The automaker didn't respond to a request for comment.

Earlier this year, US safety officials said they were investigating touchscreen failures in up to 63,000 Model S vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said memory wear out could cause the system to boot slowly, lose cell signal, or lose all navigational function. There were no known accidents or injuries caused by the malfunction.

In overall reliability, Tesla fell two spots to 25th of 26. Only Lincoln ranked lower.

I always wonder why findings like always show up when the stock is at AH . Also, the Shanghai Tesla's seem to score on the top for quality I wonder if it has to do anything with the work force. I assume that the workers in China do their best because is probably a really good job vs the workers in California could care less. I really hope Tesla get better with those small issues because its getting annoying.

The Service Center has them for replacement, but it is rare to need it. People have gone 100k miles without replacing on the Model S. I really almost never touch the brake pedal unless there is either an emergency, or I just am carrying too much speed over a very short distance.

for sure I think the Model 3 pad are designed to last the life of the vehicle.

Test it at night in heavy rain or snow covered roads . They need to digitally mark roads . Nice to know we have a ride home after a night out parting or will we be responsible ?

It already works at night with rain. It if you cannot see the lines under heavy snow the car will not see them either but it has GPS so I am not sure if the can use that in combination with the radar.

He's rich, Tesla stock has made many millionaires. Saying there is excessive hype of the stock would be an understatement. I find it interesting that he approached Apple to sell Tesla. My gut is that Elon will offload Tesla, reap all the profit and dump it into Space X.

I highly doubt this. Maybe he will put all his companies under a parent company. I been holding Tesla for many year but the recent run is just ridiculous. I am somewhat concern about an upcoming big SP crash; long term the company is amazing and will be worth much more.

I think that He knows that the battery tech will be king. I assume that will be his primary focus, and may split off Tesla Cars from Tesla Energy.

Personally I think that's a move he should have made a while ago.

Only reason to do a covered call on TSLA is if you want to sell some, in which case it works out just fine.

It would help with investor and board focus.

getting a company (or subsidiary) to have a core focus help understand the vison and mission statements better and raise capital. It also helps the employees know where there true priorities lie.

It is also an income strategy for a stock that doesn't offer a dividend. You can keep rolling up if the stock goes up, but for many years it was range bound.

Not really. It could be an income strategy or to provide some downside protection as. Why would some just put a sell order at the strike price instead if they are intending to sell the stock?

Because you get to collect the premium no matter if the call expires ITM or OTM.

You should save the "income strategy" for some boring stock like GM, definitely not one with an apparently infinite upside.

No, you only keep the premium if you sell and OTM call and finish OTM. If you sell a call ITM and finish higher then the strike you keep the extrinsic value and more. You can make between 20-40% a year selling calls on your shares. I usually only sell weeklies and been doing for a while. I love Tesla like you but stocks don't go up forever. I am mind blown about the latest stock movement. You been holding the stock for way longer that I have congrats you must be loaded. I been holding since $180s.
