Subscribed too, very interested. Maybe we should do a kickstarter to raise money to get someone to try this

I'm going to cross post this with the IWSTI thread (http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-suspe...rlier-sti.html) to keep everybody up to date.

I've been in talks with quite a few shops while SOC is figuring out what to do with my steering rack. My goodwill case has been caught in between vacations, new dealership location and presidential visits, so I still haven't heard if they're planning to replace mine since I was just 3 weeks out of warranty.

Lachute has the 2015 steering rack evaluation on their to-do list. It's currently planned as a late fall to winter R&D. They have mentioned that their previous quick steering rack installs on their shop GD and GR were done in cooperation w/ Quick Rack which is no longer in business. They're looking for another shop to take over, but no luck so far. They've mentioned concern of the steering angle sensor as they've had issues w/ it in the past.

IAG just published their AOS a couple weeks ago. They're waiting for the capital from that to come in before they start evaluating the 2015 steering rack possibilities or the IAG steering rack. They're gathering data for me unofficially but nothing has come out of it yet.

I've spoken to a few other shops and self-thought Subaru experts. They all have came to the same preliminary conclusion as I have. There's a strong chance it will work, but until someone orders one and tries it out. We won't know.

I'm down to two options for now. Pony up a $800 risk or just replace with a stock GR rack. I'm willing to do the first option but as it's my daily driver, it's not possible. I just can't afford the down time right now while I'm figuring out what potentially doesn't work.

If the car is your daily driver and you want something that you can just throw some money at it work flawless, I would caution against the 2015 rack until someone figures it out fully. It may bolt up just fine, but I think we are forgetting it sounds like this faster ratio is going to mess with the VDC on 08+ cars like the qrack and perrin super steer kit did, and potientally the DCCD as it uses the steering angle sensor too.

Ya, I'm aware of that. If I have any issues, I'm ready to run the car with VDC disabled every day until it gets figured out. I have received confirmation from one of the shops who was regularly installing QRack (Even on GRs) that doing this would avoid any of those problems.

The day after my post I received some new promising information. It seems initial examinations determine that it might be a simple bolt-on. We would just need to trial and error the sensors as we go.

For 02-07 wrx and 04-05 sti owners, this is just about the physical fitment. We have no sensor issues to deal with. I am actually ready to cut up and weld new brackets on the cross member if it comes to that. Can we order the steering rack from the dealer now?

Did this shop speak to the DCCD being fine too? 06+ DCCD uses the steering angle sensor.

So if they were putting Qracks in 08+ wrx turning off the VDC would solve that issue.

You can. Scroll up to the iwsti thread and look for the before last post for the proper part number. If you scroll up further in this thread, there's a shop that posted in this thread that has already assessed what may be required for your generation.

He only mentioned that disabling VDC manually or in the ecu would stop the steering angle sensor issues. Maybe swapping to the new 2015 sensor can solve the problems.

I am very interested in this too. I am considering ordering one just to find out. Clearly the bolt holes are close if not exact, but the the shaft splines is what I'm more concerned about.

That said, I've put an 04 rack in 98 and swapped the u-joints, so that's a possibility too.

I decided to pony up and take the chance. I can tell you it's not "just" a $500 risk in Canada. :O

I'll let you know what happened in a couple weeks. I'll be installing the cusco brace and super pro bushings at the same time. As far as I can tell, they'll still fit. Worse case, I'll resell them.

Excellent. I was quoted $875 which is still high, but not as bad as the $1250 Q-rack I had in my last car.

I'm really surprised how many people are concerned about the VDC and sensors. I would be pleased it if killed that system on it's own (then I don't have to do the wiring lol)

I only ordered the rack for now. I'll go for the trial and error method. Worse case, my VSC will only see that I'm 13.33% off at full lock.

Can you please post some measurements. Like diameter of the casing where passenger side bushing sits. Distance between two small bushings (center to center). Overal length one tie rod end to the other. From the pictures posted before, i can tell you will have to cut the openings larger for the shaft and in/outlet lines to go thru.

I'll try to get as much info as possible. My local dealership is going to be doing the work for me as they've been really good to me including some good discounts. This thing is going in whether it wants to or not even if I have to fab some brackets. It should be a direct fit from my research and other shops' research.

Where did you get your info that the slots would need to be enlarged?

From the pics posted in this thread. Actually I cannot talk for GR crossmember.

But if you compare GD rack to 2015 rack. You can see the hardlines will be in the way.

05-07 sti rack

GR rack

2015 rack

Here is a pic of GR vs GD crossmember. The openings are larger than GD crossmsmber.

As far as I know splines are same for both steering column end and rack shaft. Not sure about the lengths of the rack shaft and U joints.

I'm interested in knowing if the spacing on the mounting holes is the same mainly. I don't mind opening up the big hole in the crossmember.
