Post Who wants to go to street races around Chicago?

Does any of you guys actually know about street races around Chicago area? I don't see any of you come by there.

Subaru is after all a japanese car so it would be nice to see it stand besides turbo charged Integras or Supras. Don't you think?

Sometimes I go to these illegals out in either Handover Park, IL or Chicago, IL. I was wondering if anyone wants to join me. My friend goes there sometimes and he just aquired a Subaru Impreza RS.

Have you ever visited the "Chicago Import Car Show" at McCormick Place? Well, at Handover park that's where almost all of these people hang out at. So, it's nice to go there if you want to see a lot of nicely moded cars.

At the south side of Chicago it's more of a illegal dark type of races. People line up as they wish and race for fun. It's preety safe there, nobody fights, and it's a lot of fun to watch the races. Few weeks ago I saw a Honda Civic with all engine work done beat a moded Ford Mustang GT. That was a supprise, it's fun as hell!

If anyone wants to join me and my buddy with his Subaru Impreza email me at [email protected] I'll give you my fone number and driections to the place where you could meet me.

PS. Is it dangerous? Don't think so, the only people I have seen to get busted by the police was some guy in a civic that pealed out right in front of the police. Well, duh, he got busted! Other than that there is no fights preety good atmosphere.

I usually stop up by the Hanover Park races at least once a weekend, most of the time I show up later during a Sat. night at the McDonalds at Irving and Barrington. I've heard from a few people that a scoob has driven through there that wasn't me, but I've never seen it myself, so maybe it was you guys.

Anyway, I won't be up there for another 3 weeks right now due to vacation, but when I get back I'll be around.

Talking

Lol, maybe we should all meet up somewhere in a hudge crowd and go there all together.
There is a plenty of racing clubs that meet over at Handover Park. Maybe Impreza club should be one of them.

It's a good way of exchaning info about performance (sp?) parts, most people there actually work for Performance Shops.

By the way, if you guys decide to meet up there, remember that Friday night starting like 11:30 pm and saturday night starting also 11:30 pm would be the most perfect times to get out to Handover Park.

The other place on the south side of Chicago is more of a darker place where people race every 2 min, so, usually people go there for fun, not just to check out the cars and talk. If you want to see races, I would go to Chicago.

Are you talking about Dode road or are you talking about Chinatown? Personally I haven't heard anything good about either of them.

Hmmmmm... I've thought about getting a group of people together for a trip up there on a weekend (and kinda take over a small sction of the lot), but I haven't had the time to get it actually going. Maybe when I get back from my vaca I'll see what I can do for the night of the 26th up at McDonalds.

BTW, we usually get there earlier then that... probably around 10:30 or so.

Ya, the Chicago one is actually called Doty, China town exists no more, they started hosing the streets down. Doty is actually where they moved. It's a two lane street in the industrial district sorrounded by trees and fields. Besacly you go there, park the car on the side of the road by the start of the 1/4 mile and then they race down the street. 1/4 at the end is marked off too. A log of ghetto cars and moded imports, but mostly ghetto domestics (they look bad but they faaaasssstttt). Most races there start around 2 am on saturday and sunday. Almost all races are for Sh#@s and gigles, while some are for real money. The fact is, that someone races every 2 min or so. Fun stuff. Most of my friends have stock cars, but they like to run it sometimes against someone else or g-tech them. It's fun.

I don't know about McDonnalds, but there is also or used to be Burger King in Shamburg, but last few times I did go, nobody was there. Tex in his red 300Z started hanging out around Handover Park.

The cops busted Burger King one too many times. The last few times I've seen Tex has been up at McDonalds mainly... I don't see him very often by the Taco Bell across from the McDonalds on Barrington, it almost seems like he comes out and goes home early when everyone is over there.

Doty has always seemed like a bit of a drive so I've never gone down there before. *shrug*

Tex doesn't come there because nobody wants to race him. Lol, would you like to race a 10 sec 1/4 mile Twin Turbo 300ZX with NOS? Last time I saw him where was going to be a malee between the Stangs guys and some Imports guys. I was ready with my Arizona ice tea bothle. The only problem would be I don't know who to hit with it. Just kidding, there was some pushing around, and guys helped to break apart the angry crowd.

Now doty, well, I don't mind, I always go to this pool hall in chicago, we play games, play pool, hang out besacly. Then after they close, at 2 AM, we go in a huge group to Doty. Watch, race around. Have fun in general. Handover Park is little boring. Doty is fun.

Has Tex hit the 10's yet? Last I heard he hit an 11.1, but that was just after he got the car back from the recent work he had done to it.

I don't know about how fast exacly Tex's car is. But I hear it's around 10s 1/4 mile. Anyways, maybe we should ask webmasters of www.impreza-rs.com to post on their site about our little gathering? Ehhh?

Well word usually gets around a little different then that, but we'll see once we get it rolling.

I actually was up at the Taco Bell tonite and saw a race between a GTi VR6 (yellow, name is Tony) against a black 2dr. Integra GSR with slight work (nothing noticable). Unfortunately Tony missed a gear and lost by about 3 places... too bad, he was definetly quicker too.

I managed to play with a few cars on the way home, but neither posed much of a threat, though I did fall behind the second time cause I massively missed 3rd. *shrug*

Personally I'm going to be out of town, but Doty is a bit far for my tastes anyway. Thanks though... if you come back up to Hanover Park let me know. I've stopped by the last 2 nights so far.

BTW, the real reason Tex isn't racing anyone is because he has gone sponsored on his car and if he gets caught street racing, he loses his sponsorships. Supposedly he wants to fix up his Civic for street racing, though I kinda wonder about that one.

Hey,
Did you go to Doty on on Friday night? I saw someone with a Impreza (intake exchaust). He raced my friend who has a red Nissan 240SX. My friend also mentioned about talking to someone around Tacobell who has an Impreza and he wants to turbo it. Was that you?

I actually left town Friday evening, but I did stop by the Jewel on Schaumburg & Barrington and found a few people there since they said there was a big fight up at Taco Bell (looks like we might have to steer clear of there for a while).

I dunno if I talked to your freind or not... I might turbo sometime in the future, but I'm not planning on it or anything. If you see a silver 2dr with clear sidemarkers and bumper lamps, and the intake right up in the hood scoop, that'd be me. I don't have an exhaust yet either, actually.

Actually you never know who lurks here and doesn't post... I bet there are a few people watching and thinking about coming up to the races sometime just because they're interested in it.

I'll hit ya up with an email when I get home... all I've got access to is crappy webmail at the time.

Most of the races around here are in Hanover Park, but not too much racing going on... Lots of standing around and BS'ing and checking out cars and stuff. I'm usually up there Sat. nights and sometimes Friday nights as well.

If you want actual racing, you have to go to Chinatown and/or Doty Rd. on the south side. (I haven't been to either while they were active, but I can't see where people were racing at Chinatown since it's all streetlights everywhere).

There aren't any races in Chinatown anymore. It's last year's news. Handover Park is a place where they all meet. You won't see many races there (if you see one you're a very luck man). It's a parking lot full of domestics on one side and imports on the other. Go there if you want to meet friends and talk about cars or you just like to see good looking cars standing.

If you want to race/watch go to Doty. You can see a lot of sleepers and not much rice over there. Doty is something else, it's a long street sorrounded by trees and fields and local junk yard and totally no lights.
I go there more because they race anything every 1 minute sometimes.

I go to Doty sometimes. Handover Park is rether boring place, so I don't go there much anymore. There is some other place like in Wheeling, IL or around Chicago, but they're either small or kinda hidden.

I've talked to some VW guys from Gurnee that said the scene up there was pretty big and had lots of import races going on, but I don't know exactly where any of that is or anything.

What? You mean Doty? I don't remember seeing VW cars there. But there is plenty of imports and domestics. Last week there was a 13 sec. Honda Civic vs. some old ass car. My friends said that the car sux and it's slow. Well, the guy had something on it because it was almost up there with the Civic. Civic lost because the guy had a bad start. But it was a nice N/A Civic. You would never say it was fast till you saw them drag radials. Heh eh.
