I don't have a walkie-talkie or family radio, but I do have a scanner that can receive 462.7000. And I assume that we will exchange cell phone numbers in advance. I'm still hoping to join at the first pit stop, about one hour into the drive.

Holy Smokes - it is shaping up larger than I contemplated. I will update the list of interested folks later on today.

Radios are crucial. The frequency is required since that is what my 4 walkie talkies are set for - and us organizers are using - thus everyone else please change yours to this frequency. I am using subchannel 14.

We will exchange phone numbers - but then again - do you really wanna exchange numbers with 30 other people ? I will gladly give mine out to those of you joining us later

Again, remember there rules that all of us should read and abide by during this trip. us and our guest

Yes guys...I am thinking us organizers will be there at 720 and everyone else should be there between 730 and 740.

Again, anyone with walkie talkies - please set them up to the assigned frequency.

I think I wanna lay down a few more rules. Don't you love micromanagement ? (It is getting pretty large - what started as a simple suggestion between me and a few fellow Legacy owners, one September night at Buffallo Wild Wings in Skokie has become a small army of Subarus. Thus...)

A) OVERTAKING - in the event we get separated by traffic, and/or our convoy comes upon slower traffic, ALL of us shall overtake on the same side. Hopefully meaning left, since I do not want the poor fellow being overtaken to feel cornered by raving rows of Subarus on both sides - nor do I want cars waving in and out of traffic.

B) TOLLWAYS - we will probably come across a few. Those of us with I-PASS will go thru the I-PASS lanes and after the toll plaza, we will pull to the right / slow down in the right lane and let everyone catch up. It is important that our assigned caboose will go thru the cash gates - even if he has an I-PASS. Everyone resumes their order in the convoy.

C) And how do we know what is the order ? I will bring a marker to write on glass. I suppose we can all clean up the rear glass afterwards. Just a tiny number in the left hand corner - enough to be visible by the car behind.

What about pit stops? Someone is eventualy going to need to get gas before someone else. And we can not pull into a gas station with 20+ cars.

At the last count >37 cars (I just counted the forum members - there are a few that said they are bringing others along). That is A LOT of cars. Granted, a few folks are from Iowa and will join us in Savanna, IL. Regardless, even with people dropping out, it will still be a sizable meet.

With regards to pitstops, a "requirement" is to show up with a FULL tank of gas. We will make hourly stops but undoubtedly either in Savanna or in Galena, we will have to invade a gas station and make that attendant happy.

We will just have to be judicious - we send in only a few cars at once in the gas station. That is why we have people with walkie talkies and coordinating the event. We got it covered.

I bought a pair of Cobra 22-channel GMRS/FRS two-way radios today. I'll be glad to loan the extra one to a car that doesn't have one. I think I'll still bring my scanner, just in case.

No problem giving anyone my cell phone number - OK perverts, time out - at least to the organizers.

Be advised I do not have I-Pass.

I'm really looking forward to this! Thanks for setting it up!

GPS - NAVI how many folks got one ? I just wanna make sure NAVI cars are spread thru-out the pack. I know the people I designated for front end, tail end, recon etc got navi, but with now 35 cars (ok...assume realistically 20 ?) you probably want a few more - on the GT side we have like 5 cars with Navi. 20 cars on the road occupy 200 meters.

No need to thank me. Yet. If it comes out alright, I will try and do other events - maybe a snow meet at Wisconsin Dells in February, maybe a Tail of the Dragon drive in spring-summer. These are other thoughts that my GT buddies and I have shared over the years. It must be said that this meet is indeed 3 years in the making for us on the GT side. We have never made it anywhere farther than Bartlett in any considerable numbers. But it is premature to think beyond 3rd Nov. I am however impressed with the level of interest, participation and cooperation and I am hopeful that this meet-leisure drive will be a success.

Yeah...bring significant others along.

It is getting INSANE. 40 cars now ? You may not have GPS, radios, but bring a single use 100 speed film camera at least. 40 tricked out Subarus sharing the road (hopefully in a CIVILIZED manner) doesn't happen often.

Yeah...any of you folks with cars that see track time, have a particular video camera setup that I should know about ? I would like to request specifically that at least two of you set up cameras with a front view and a rear view ... and you will have radios , identified properly and temporarily allowed to get out of line and videotape.

And yes, among ourselves, 40 cars may still be something new and interesting, but the look on other people's faces will be priceless.

So since Craig has 14 channel radios and has 4 of them which could potentially be shared among us, please suggest a frequency that we all would have regardless of the walkie-talkie...and I will switch out mine to that frequency as well.

ANONMASSIVE - you're hired. We will get you set up to be our official cameraman. LOL Make sure you work on your angles then...quite sure most of us will be sporting videocameras...but I want only one - max 2 cars to do videos of the convoy while driving. Otherwise it becomes chaotic if everyone tries to capture essentially the same images. One (two) camera crew(s) - and same video distributed to everyone. Good bad grainy or crystal clear... we will live with it.

Thanks Scooby. At his suggestion, in order to accomodate everyone's equipment, please set up your 2-way radios on

channel 4 @ 462.6375 MHz. That will work on FRS, GMRS, and FRS/GMRS.

One thing to note for those of you running custom 93 octane tunes, 93 is pretty hard to come by around the Galena area. My wife's folks live out there, so we go every few months or so. I have a 93 octane protune so I fill up here before we leave and then again at Winnebago (on Rt. 20).

Also, not sure of the route you are taking but Elizabeth Scales Mound Road has some really nice curves and elevation changes.

I can run it by the wife, but not likely. If she came with we would need to bring our 2 dogs (which would be a hassle), and if she didn't then that would mean I'm leaving her home by herself all day (which would probably be frowned upon ).

I'll ask, though.
