GD chassis roof racks
Hey all. What's the current option for getting a rack for my 2005 sedan? I don't want something that clamps to the window frame.

I dunno if the guy who designed and built these brackets is still around. I purchased a set of these brackets years ago and installed them on my STi. I ended up using my wife's SUV and stopped the project so they are there but I never used them. I do have all of the Yakima mounts still come to think of it. If you go down that road hit me up I'll see if I can find everything if you want to pay shipping its yours. I'd see if you can reach out to the guy who made these as the factory brackets are pretty weak. People have tapped the factory brackets though. If you do off road riding...you may want to look into a hitch rack. I didn't like mud and dirt getting on our old vehicles roof after my rides and finally put hitches under both our SUVs and purchased a hitch mounted bike rack. |

Shortly after asking the question, I did indeed decide to go that route. I reached out to him about those brackets but haven’t heard anything yet. Honestly, if you can find them, I will gladly pay for them. I ended up getting a NOS set of the Yakima landing pads and plan to get the skylinefx bars, the faring, and a basket. No off-roading here, technically. Just driving forest roads at the rallys.

The brackets are installed on the car. I don't want to remove them because of what's involved. I meant that I had the Yakima parts available. Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. I pm’d you to see what you have. I also pm’d krazy to see if he would get any other notification that way. I asked if he’s not getting them made anymore, maybe he can provide cad or something so I can get them done. If not, it doesn’t look incredibly hard to model a set and print for testing, then send it out to a shop.

For anyone with a 2002-2007 sedan still wanting to install a roof rack, REI still shows the Yakima landing pad 11 on sale, new. At least, they did a couple weeks ago.
And as for the brackets, thanks to BlobeyeSTI, I have re-designed, gotten a 3D print test fit, and am currently waiting on the first set of stainless brackets to come back from PCBway. I am hoping to have them by next week and check the for real fit on the car. I will take pictures, but there are also a few videos on youtube on sorta how they're installed, with varying degrees of detail. If anyone is interested in these, we are considering a couple ways of doing it. I can buy a bunch of sets based on how many people show interest, which will drive the price down, or I can share the design through PCBway, which you will likely pay around $150 for a set, but I would get a around a 10% commission or whatever you want to call it. Basically, if around 10-20 people want a set, we could likely get the price down to around $100/set shipped. Please let me know if you're interested in here. And before anyone gets upset that I'm doing the same thing krazy did, he did respond to me via email, saying he was no longer having them made, but may in the future. I am FOR SURE having them made. So there you have it. |

Hey again people. I got the brackets in. They seem VERY nice. Threads are proper for the M8 screws that come with the Yakima landing pads. I'll probably be attempting the install one night this week or this coming weekend.
I will once again post another update when installed, so long as everything went as expected. I am thinking about making a video or taking a lot of good pictures. Once again, please reach out if you plan to get a set of these. Depending on the amount of people interested, I could get a group buy together to bring pricing down. |
