Intercooler autowash thresholds
Can anybody clarify if the intercooler autowash thresholds:
Vehicle speed Engine speed Coolant temperature Intake air temp Have to be all met at the same time for the ECU to spray, or any of them will cause the spray ?

Well, with all the enthusiasm this thread has generated, being that I figured the answer, I thought I'd post it, so that others will have it.
All the thresholds have to be met at the same time, for the sprayer to spray. The strange thing is that when I first downloaded the ROM, the vehicle speed threshold was set above 188Km/h and since that's above the maximum speed attainable with a JDM 6 speed, this means that the feature was turned off from the factory, if I was to believe that it was an OEM ROM. |

So, I have everything connected and confirmed that the ECU sees the autowash button pressed.
But I set the vehicle speed threshold to minimum under zero and maximum over zero, wanting to test function of the setup in idle. No result yet. Next, I'll try to separate min and max, probably with 5 mph. |

I tried with 0 and 5 km/h. When I first start, the relay clicks on momentarily, then it's off again and won't come back on, unless I cycle the key in the ignition. Then I get a repeat of the above.
My setup does not include the 2 second timer. |

Well, I've checked the stock rom for all years spec C and S202, 203, 204.
All have the speed thersholds defined as: off under 187 km/h on over 188 km/h So if the romraider definition is correct, then all these cars would come from the factory with the autowash off and the dealer would have to do a reflash to turn it on. Next I am going to assume that this is wrong and that the real definition is: on under 187km/h off over 188 km/h and that this sort of definition applies to all the autowash thresholds. In other words: on under the lower number off over the higher number |

So, I've put the vehicle speed threshold back to OEM values (thanks Clark) and I have signal.
The signal is not what i expected though. I expected the ECu to send a continuous ground signal, when the conditions have been met, lasting untill one condition is out, like for instance the intake is cooled. Nope, the ECu just sends a ground signal pulse, that does not even last a full second, it does click the relay, but certainly no time for the pump motor to start up. So the timer relay does not reduce the length of the spray from continuous to 2 seconds, it extends the duration from 0.5 to 2 seconds. So, now that I have signal, I have to buy the timer. The dissapointing thing is that for every accelerative event, you get 1 pulse from the ECU, so 2 seconds of spray. I was hoping for 30 seconds per pull, or maybe 3-4 spray pulses. I think every acceleration pull is considered by the ECU as a separate event and it decides whether to spray or not. When you decel, the system is armed for a new spray. The only other possibillity is to see if by changing the speed thresholds again, maybe I can get the vehicle speed theshold to be attained during decel as well. |

The rpm theshold works, to some extent.
The OEM is over 4000 and under 3800. I tried 500 and 700 and it does kick in right away. I tried 500 and 3500 and it hits anywhere over 2000. |

Vlad, I am way interested in this buddy, I am sorry nobody else has chimed in, but I am glad you are keeping the thread updated.
I want to try and rig something like this up to my Forester. Would like to build a sprayer that is throttle position and perhaps IDC dependent, but I doubt that any WRX/STi roms have this feature built in so I am basically going to have to design it from scratch I think, or at least use one of the meth injection companies controllers which have IDC and throttle position logic built in. You thread is definitely being watched by me brother. |

Take a look at this Australian unit from Autospeed. It's dependent on the IDC, a thermistor implanted by you inside the intercooler fins and one to measure the outside temperature. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=0578&P=1 This is the one I am taking out, to replace with this OEM solution. |

Some other news are that Ecutek has the same exact thresholds and vehicle speed defect.

It's finally spraying!!
It took getting the Sti timer relay and upping the fuse size to 25 Amp. You can get several sprays in a 1/4 mile run, oe after each gear shift. It's not too bad at this point. Now onto the boost per gear compensations.. |

I wanto to ask you about intrcooler sprayer pulse delay. which timer relay did you change to increase pulse length for every spray evnt? whre is that relay located? I have 02 JDM STI and want to do the same thanks Bakur |

The spray pulse duration cannot be changed, it's timed by the standard Sti relay. One spray per accelerative event.
So if you do a pull in gear, you get one spray. As soon as you let go of the accelerator, the system is armed again and one of the conditions (in my case the boost most often) will trigger the next spray. So while during a pull, like a quarter mile, you'll get the next spray after shifting into the next gear, but in commute, driving in the same gear, you'll get sprays without having to shift, after you release the accelerator, as soon as you accelerate and the boost gets to the preset value again. I think I remember that the stock timer relay location is somewhere above the spray button, under the vent, but I'm not sure right now. You'd have to change the timer relay, with one that has an adjustable timer, or if you need more cooling capacity, add a spray nozzle. Honestly, I was so focused on getting this to work right, I never considered to increase the effect, by using two nozzles, or even 3. I wanted to preset this in such way that the Spec C tank lasts as long as a fuel tank, so I tank water when I tank fuel. |
