Installed a V3 from Josh about a month ago. Install went smoothly except for the v-band. The bolt could be a bit longer, but not a big deal. Use a bit of wire like a tourniquet to get it to come together. Fittiment is good, welds look nice, the tip and the GMS stamping were not laid out really well, off center so I eased the issue with a PortaBand and grinder, and get some other bolts as has been stated before. The sound is very similar to a Cobb. I am running catless. Gutted up and Perrin DP. Not loud in comparison to JDM-type cans, but not as quiet as stock. Low deep grumble at idle, I almost cannot hear it at 3k, but I definitely can hear it above 4.5. I decided not to go with the powder coating from IIR and will be using flat silver BBQ paint from the weld on the tip all the way through to DP. All of the little issues I would have been very upset with from Cobb, but for $2XX to my door its almost cheaper than just buying the 3" SS pipe to make my own. If the muffler gets way louder or the hangers rust I can just buy the Borla muffler and resonator and have my GMS/Hush.
All in all, great value oriented exhaust. The sound is nice, no drone in sedan at 3k, might have some rust issues in the future so make sure you go with IIR powdercoating or Hi-Temp paint before weather, and the exhaust is nice looking.
And get 15mm long hangers.
Thanks again Josh

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but id like to hear more about how the v3 gimmick motorsports catback is holding up, i live in utah so rust is a huge issue, will the black coating stop the rust? also does the v band flange hold up good? and will this thing attach to my stock dp pretty easy? or do i need a special adapter, Also i hear kartboy exhaust hangers are needed to make it not burn the bumper, how many of those would i need for install?

Idk if someone has already answered this for you, but it would be a good idea to pick up a 2.5" to 3" adapter if you plan on running a 3" catback with the stocker dp and vise versa. I'm glad I did because when I installed my Perrin dp to mate up to the stock catback, I tried it without using the adapter and there was pretty sizable exhaust leak. I slapped on the adapter and problem solved!

Any paint for steel applications with the right prep will resist rust for quite awhile. It'd definitely be worth it. There's a few other exhaust with v bands and from what I've seen they hold up well.

Hopes this helps!

I just bought a v3 for my 04 sti and was wondering if eveyone else's catback only had welds on the outside of pipe/ vband flange and not the inside? Also, the pipe sticks out a hair from the vband flange (midpipe) and looks like it was welded on crooked. Flat flange seems to be warped as well. Would anyone be able to clarify if any of this is normal?

Does install require 15mm or 15mm LONG exhaust hangers?

The clamp connecting the axle-back to the mid-pipe snapped today. It's a v-band clamp - is the clamp a universal part? I'm looking here now: https://www.summitracing.com/search?...v-band%20clamp
