Stock turbo boost issues: few questions...
Hello everyone,
I have a 2006 STI with stock turbo. It does have a full turboback, perrin header and short ram intake. I have an AP with an etune and am running into a weird issue. At WOT, I hit only ~14-15lbs of boost (in 2nd and 3rd gear), and I was told it should be a couple more pounds than that. I do, however, hit 17lbs in 4th (at least according to my gauge - I need to log 4th gear to be 100%). Now, looking at the logs from 2nd and 3rd gear, I am hitting 100% injector duty cycles at WOT. I was told to check for leaks, and I had two mechanics do just that (one tested by spraying around the hoses and the other did a smoke test). No leaks. I have a HKS BOV. Took it off and went back to stock but no change. I do have a new BOV/Intercooler gasket on the way just in case, but I doubt it's that since there wasn't any issues according to the leak tests the mechanics did. I was told since there is 100% duty cycle, he thought there was a leak, but again, I can't find it. Can anyone think of anything to try? One thing recommeneded to me was a EBCS and a Walbro fuel pump, but I was wondering if that's necessary considering I'm running the stock turbo. Anyone have suggestions or thoughts? Thanks for your help!

those are inferior leak tests. with the engine running you cant hear any leaks and its only under a little vacuum. also, not all the connections are easily accessible to spray water on and look closely at.
do a proper leak test and pressurize the intake tract and then look/listen for leaks. with my experience at least, you will know pretty quickly if you have a leak and where the leak is. i dont know if doing a leak test is the right way to find whats wrong, but if you are going to do the test, do it properly. |

Still need the pressure test. Just want your input on getting just a fuel pump. Worthwhile on the stock turbo? Not looking to upgrade the injectors at this point.
Thanks, Mike |

I'd definitely get one if I did a turbo upgrade. However, on the stock turbo with the above mod list?

OK, so verified no leaks. I did change the fuel pump to a Walbro. Still low boosts. I guess the target boost on this map is 19lbs. Again, certainly not hitting anywhere near that in 2nd or 3rd. I was told my "wastegate cycle is pegged at 85%".
Should I try a restrictor pill? EBCS? Help please. |

I'm going through a similar issue...
with my forester XT- It runs/idles well, but, I'm definitely missing boost as well. I emailed Peaty (The "Modfather" on Scooby Mods) and he suggested I check my IC Y-pipe for leaks, spray the MAF out and check the BOV for leaks (on a stock application). The OTHER item I found may be an issue is the Banjo bolt on the turbo oil supply line. I know I was having issues because I started having a drop in boost following a lengthy towing session with my Forester- It has never been checked and/or changed. so, i went and purchased some Metric sockets and will remove it today. One caveat though is that I believe your bolt for the STi application is next to the DP...making it a bitch to access. Do a search on Scoobymods and here to see what you can find. Let me know what you find, as I am trying to troubleshoot my boost issues as well. Good luck!

Well I am going to try an EBCS and see what happens (with revised tune, of course).

Looks like the ebcs did the trick. Boosting with no issues whatsoever.
