Question Alpine ilx-107 help...retaining factory mic

Hey Everyone,

Just picked up an Alpine-ilx 107 on the cheap in Orange County, couldn't pass up the deal. After lots of trial and error, a dead battery and last minute rushes from Amazon I have everything working EXCEPT the factory mic.

Does anyone have any leads on this? I can't for the life of me find a solution other than swapping in the new one that came with the new unit. Is there an adapter for this unit? We've been searching high and low. The ilx-107 does not have a 3.5mm audio jack in rear but does have one on a breakout cable harness that it plugged in for steering wheel controls. We cannot find the factory cable that would plug in as 3.5mm. Assuming we need an adapter to make this happen. Please help.

Thanks!

thats because the factory mic is not normal, it has a 5 volt power, and also has a mic detect wire in the factory harness.... why not just put the one that came with the alpine up in the spot??

I was hoping for a plug and play solution and not have to run a cable....That sounds like what needs to be done? No adapters? Thanks for the reply phd12v

i doubt you will find an adaptor at all, i know we looked into keeping it with our Maestro RR system, but it wasn't a "good fit"

Thanks, I will probably just run that new mic in it's place and swap it out. Never easy I guess. Happy with the unit so far at least.

Please refer to this forum post I made called, “Apline iLX-107, WRX, & You”

http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/electr...7-wrx-you.html

“A. Aftermarket Microphone that comes with the Alpine iLX-107 Unit

If you are planning to splice into the OEM microphone in the Premium and Limited editions of the WRX`s/STi then let this be your warning. Hypothetically it could be done and I went all the way as to doing this but the OEM microphone requires a 5 volt signal because it has an amplifier built in; the Alpine iLX-107 unit is not looking for an amplified connection. Thus this would over amplify the signal when talking in the vehicle and distort the sound or clip the signal. I will still provide the documentation of how we determined this below. I ended up installing the aftermarket microphone into my 2011 Subaru WRX Premium Hatchback and it was actually very easy to wire down because of this following thread.

<---- You will see my post with photos on how I went about doing this at the thread previously provided.”
