If anyone is looking, I am considering selling my CP635U1 with the SiriusXM Satellite Radio module and adapter for rear view camera. Might be posting to classifieds in the next few weeks.

There are multiple currently available on eBay when I last looked. Try searching "Forester radio" as another search instead of the model number

Not sure if that was a post looking for a radio or a post promoting a website I've never heard of. If you want to talk further Kimmy, I am likely selling mine soon, drop me a private message

Hello, can you please tell me if i can replace the oem CZ424L1 with CP435L1 from aliexpress, and all the features including Bt will work?

Is it plug and play or needs modifications?

I own a Impreza XV 2010 and I did not found any information about my radio model. I have the 3 Bt buttons under the steering wheel

Yes, CP435L1 is a good swap in place of your CZ424L1. Plug-and-play, no modifications needed. CZ424L1 is analogous to the USDM CZ624U1.

If you want to add a rear camera, you'll need to add a wire to a vacant slot on your car's 16-pin aux/mic harness plug to supply the reverse gear signal to the display HU, plus an 8-pin rear camera harness (and a camera). I probably gave more details about that somewhere earlier in this thread.

It's probably not a Crosstrek. Maybe just a 5-door (hatchback)? And is the 10th digit of your VIN "A" (for 2010) or "B" (for 2011)? That's the model year Subaru considers your car to be.

Thank you for the answer.

It's considered 2011 but it is first registred in September 2010. Impreza XV it's the "limited edition", if I can say that, for the normal 5 door Impreza. It has the moulded plastic wheel arch protector and roof rails

I asked because 2013 was the first model year for Crosstrek in North America (started selling in 2nd half of 2012). Does yours say "Crosstrek XV" on the back, like this?

Hi SVXdc, please can you give me more details about which is the pins that I must connect between 8-pin rear camera harness and the 16-pin aux/mic harness. Thanks!

8: The additional wire, reverse gear signal, plugs into the OEM 16-pin harness that plugs in the radio. You extend that wire (i used 18ga wire) to the passenger side kick panel area (same way you routed the camera wire, but reverse). There is a Br-Y (Brown/yellow) wire. You T-Tap it (vampire clip). The same wire (rear signal wire) that you attached to the 16-pin plug, you T-Tap (vampire clip) the camera wire (the camera has a power wire leading off of the Yellow/Video RCA) into the rear signal wire.
Hi,

Please clarify if the additional wire is connected between 8-pin harness and 16-pin harness . Also, wich are the pins of each harness where this additional wire is connected. Many thanks!

You must add a new wire with the proper Japanese terminal to pin #16 on your car's 16-pin aux/mic harness plug. I offer the wire (in either 6" or 4 foot length) if you also order the 8-pin rear camera harness from me.

Connect the free end of that wire to your car's +12V reverse gear signal. You can tap that from a factory harness behind the passenger kick panel (near the door hinge), or near the reverse bulbs (near the camera).

Some aftermarket rear cameras have an extra red wire embedded in the long video cable. You can use that to send the reverse signal from the back of the car to the HU. Or use that to send power from near the HU to the camera.

Thank you very much SVXdc !!! finally the camera is displayed in my Audio. I bought a 16-pin terminal and connected it as you indicated. I only had a problem with the rear camera, because the image could not be displayed. Maybe the reason is the IR LED, so I had to replace it with another camera without IR, and now it works perfectly.

Thank you SVXdc!!! Upgraded my WRX to a 2013 Forester HU with a Rydeen duo back up camera using your 8-pin camera harness. Thanks to the guys at Safe and Sound Auto Design in Woodland Hills, CA. And thank you Suba_WRX for the awesome screen saver (post #524).

I got the harness from svxdc and a forester head unit CP635U1 and connected the backup camera to it. Powered the backup camera from the reverse lights but the head unit doesn't switch to the reverse camera when I put the car in reverse. After a bit of digging I found a diagnostic mode in the head unit (turn off and rotate the right tuning dial while pressing the preset button 6) and that shows me the camera input when I'm in reverse.

Any idea why it doesn't automatically switch in normal mode?

The head unit stays on whatever function you were on? Or shows you a black backup screen? What model are you putting it in? Svxdc has a pin break out that shows the reverse signal...might want t make sure it's all good. Could it be the head unit?

Yes, the mode/function of the head unit doesn't change

in the hidden diagnostic menu it shows the camera signal when the car is in reverse and a black screen otherwise so that makes me think that the harness is good

Try disconnecting the positive line from the reverse lights. If you're seeing the camera through diagnostic, that means the camera is getting powered without the reverse light feed.

Sounds like you have not connected your car's reverse gear signal to the CP635U1 head unit.

The diagnostic menu also shows you the status of several signals, including reverse gear. I'm guessing that's never showing it "on." Right?

As I explained back when you ordered the camera harness from me, WRX and STi models like yours lack that signal. You must also add a wire with that signal to pin #16 on your car's 16-pin aux/mic harness plug.

I provided a wire with the proper OEM-style (Japanese) terminal for you to do that. The opposite end must be tapped into a factory wire behind the passenger kick panel (near the door hinge). Did you not install that wire?

Got my CM631UD installed this morning. Purchased via eBay for $70, it came out of a 2014 Impreza. Installation was straightforward and it is a much better radio than the stock unit. I can now see all text from the albums and songs being played from my iPod and iPhone, and the interface is much better. Bluetooth works a little better too, though I still need to manually pair the phone after starting the car.

Try deleting the phone from your radio and starting over with the bluetooth pairing. Use the steering wheel controls and your voice to pair it, not the radio buttons.

Will any of these radios below work with a 2010 Forester? I don't need sat, bluetooth, usb. What I need is AM/ FM, maintain the controls on the steering wheel and a backup camera which will need to be newly installed.

(radios with 4.3" screens listed in SVXdc's post #1300)

[pasted text from my post here -- #1300 in this same thread]
My post you copied/pasted lists the models with the 4.3" screen (and rear camera input). None of them will work completely in a 2008-2010 Impreza, WRX, or STi; or 2009-2010 Forester. See this post -- #404 in this same thread. That post also links to several of my other posts with additional details.

Subaru made a significant change to the SWCs on 2011-up models with the phone/Bluetooth buttons. In previous models, there were only 2 wires between the SWCs and the radio's 20-pin power/speaker harness. On the models with BT SWC buttons, Subaru added a 3rd wire for those, and changed all of the resistor values. None of the SWC buttons in 2008-2010 models (Impreza, WRX, STi, Forester) have the proper resistances for a 2011-up radio designed to work with the phone/BT buttons.

To have working SWCs with one of the 4.3" HUs, you would need to retrofit the SWC buttons from a 2011-2014 model. That would also require that you swap in a roll connector from one of those models (to support the 3rd SWC wire between the wheel and the HU). All of that is doable, but may be more effort and expense than it's worth, unless you have a nearby cheap source for salvaged parts.

If your main goal is to add a rear camera, you'll probably find it easier and cheaper to install an aftermarket HU. See this 'parts needed' guide.
