12+ Impreza Heated seat switch in a 08+ Impreza DIY Wiring
So i have been getting a ton of requests on how to wire the 12+ heated seat switch into 08+ Impreza. ideally for people who can’t leave their cars alone and have used modification as a way of expressing themselves.
Performing this is at your own risk, this requires very basic wiring knowledge abilities, but the hard work is done for you. Why you would want to do this:
I would not recommend this for:
What is needed:
Below is a wiring diagram to assist, you will need to create your own harness, or splice into your factory wring. The 12+ impreza switch uses an 8 pin connector, the 08+ impreza uses two 4 pin connectors. use the wiring diagram to match the colors together the only pins on the 12+ switch that will not be used with the factory heated seat switches are pins 5 (black with white stripe) and 6 (violet). These pins are utilized to illuminate the red backlighting on the switch. a separate power and ground must be run from these two pins, to a separate power and ground. i chose to use the red LED mood light underneath the HVAC controller, which illuminates the lower cubby. Tapping in here, will allow the switch lighting to turn on with the rest of the cars interior lights as well as dim. if you just want them to light up, you could theoretically tap into the ignition12v power and ground already being run to the switch. Good Luck!

Is it just a regular legacy console? As I said above, "preferably an 08+ STI console, or Legacy Spec B console (in order to avoid cutting) can be installed in a blank top via cutting with a dremel (i am not covering how to use a dremel in this)" I did not have to cut my console, as I used a 2013 STI top Sent from my iPhone using NASIOC |

I know I'm bringing up an old thread but your input would be much appreciated. I purchased the part number you had written in the post. Only problem is I don't have the same colored wires so I'm lost on wiring it. I have a solid yellow, solid blue, red with white line, violet, solid red, tannish brown, solid black, and a black with white line. The red with white line is thicker then all the rest of the wires.

Finally got around to doing this install on my 2016 using a 2017 STI center console and switches. Worked great. Tapped power for illumination off of my footwell lighting since it's easy to access.
Thanks for posting the wiring diagrams! |

Hello I stumbled upon your post while searching to wire my 15+ STi center into my 15+ wrx. I’m understanding most of it however driver side has 2 blue/red wires, & I’m still confused about the black wires on each harness while the sti switch also has a spot for 2 black wires, isn’t one Wiley to ground for the illumination. Trying to understand it better. Your photos don’t seem to load anymore. Can you please reupload the photos, or can we talk on Facebook/Instagram?

https://drive.google.com/file/d/19en...ew?usp=sharing The pages I attached show the wiring for both the EJ (STI) and FA (WRX) motors years 15+. All you need to do is splice the 2 cables (blue with red stripe [L/R in diagram] & black [b]) that are shared by the two wrx switches. once you splice those back together just put the cables to the correct pins or if you want I can provide you with the STI harness which is like 20$ that I just pig tailed. Then its just plug and play. Last edited by Mvttic; 11-09-2019 at 02:30 PM. Reason: Forgot to add link |

I got quite a few PMs about the harness... sorry I miscommunicated a little... I am not making the harness because you need to splice into the factory wires. I 3D printed plugs that accept the factory plug going into the seat heater switch and was able to create a harness for myself. The easier way is to just snip the original plugs and then splice in Part #81870VA320 (find it on ebay for like 25$ or so). This way your original wiring will now have the appropriate plug for the sti switch. Use the diagram on how to wire the two together. It's pretty straight forward.

Verifying
Ok so
1. Get the wire harness that has the STI pigtail on it and cut this pigtail off the harness. (And obviously get the STI switch) 2. Cut the two WRX switch plugs off the WRX harness. 3. Simply connect the wires to matching colors between the WRX harness and STI pigtail, only using one L/R wire and one B wire from the WRX side. The other L/R and B wires can be cut and not used. 4. Wire to 5 and 6 pins separately if wanting the switch lights to come on. Hopefully, I don't come across the same issue RUMBL came across in post #4. 2008 Wrx
Hello all,
I know this is reviving an old thread, but could not create a new (due to lacking replies and such) I have a 2008 WRX that I installed an STI center console in, and purchased the 2012+ 3 position switch and harness as the post suggests. All of the wiring diagrams discussed have expired, so I was wondering if anyone could share. Trying to decipher the pin layouts and where each wire will go but struggling to find wiring for 2008 and 2012s. Thank you! |
