Has anyone found a place for replacement lenses for a Blobeye?

Short of ordering a set of DEPO's and cannibalizing the lenses?

I have several weird questions, so bear with me.

I just purchased an automatic car that I will be driving to work and on days when I am physically unable to drive stick shift. The vehicle uses separate high/low bulbs, and while the low beams have a projector (rather than a reflector), it still uses a halogen bulb.

I want to purchase either an HID or LED (low beam) kit to use with those projectors. The flavor for the low beam is H11b. Whatever the STI's color temp and output are, I strongly like both. If I go with an HID kit, I would like a similar color temp (and output.) From what I can ascertain, it appears that my STI is around an HID equivalent 6500k...however, I am not a great judge at this. I can't even really start comparing brands to figure out what brand I want until I know what color temp I am looking at, and whether I can generalize the quality across one reseller's larger product line.

Essentially, while I know there are some fundamental differences between LED and HID...
  1. What HID color temp would best match the temp on the (current) WRX STI's LEDs?
  2. If a Maker offering an HID kit in another size, such as H4, has an outstanding overall reputation, can this be generalized to other headlights (specifically, H11), or is it common for a Maker to offer a great kit in one headlight size and a totally terrible one in another?
  3. Based on this thread, I gather that most HID kits sold by companies are usually rebranded ballasts/bulbs made by one of only several companies...is there any sort of list that specifies what manufacturers are used by the various resellers, or am I going to have to send emails to these resellers one-by-one?

Thanks much!

Is anyone running an LED conversion kit in place of the OEM D2R bulbs? Wondering if I should make the leap.

You should NEVER install a bulb of one type into a housing designed for a different type of bulb. At that point, you need to be researching retrofits.

GK1707 already has OEM HIDs. A retrofit will not be an upgrade.

He was asking if he could put LEDs into his HID housings, doesn't change my advice.

so, is this thread dead?

page 28 stops at 12 Dec 2018 (now two years in the past)...

Also, a good majority of these posts are for GD and earlier chassis code WRX/STi. What about 2015+ owners with base and premium trim cars?

I guess I could try and poke around page 21 or so and read forward to see of my question is answered about VA chassis cars...

I guess I will need to look at youtube as well since that seems to be the defactoe location for showing off "stuff"

will any H11 HID kit work in our H11 (halogen) projectors. I am specifically looking at hte 35w deAutoKey's 35w HID kit at 5500K ($135). But are there better options?

What HID kit are other VA base and premium hologen projector owners running? 25w or 35w or 55w?

Other than HIDs, I am also thinking of running H9s (65w halogen) in the H11 low beam...

The same caveats re: aftermarket HID's still apply. I'd be wary of sticking any "kit" in there but proceed at your own risk. Of course you could also source a set of Limited LED headlights but those are more $.
The H9 conversion is well-covered in other threads and I would highly recommend trying that first as it may be all you need-

In my '15 I have H9 lows and 9005 HIR highs.

HID is dead. If your car has HID stock, stay HID as that's very good. If your car has ANY other style of headlight, LED is the way to go. Keeps the light source oriented correctly, gives you that nice white light that HID hopes to be, you DON'T have to run some crazy large ignitor/ballast somewhere under your bumper. You don't have to add that wiring in for that same ignitor/ballast. Modern LEDs are crazy good. I love the stock LED lights in my wife's Ascent and my niece's Nissan Rogue Sport. I put DOT legal LEDs on my Jeep and they're nice and white and nearly as good as my over-powered Hella E-Code headlights in my trackrat Miata. There are no longer any good arguments for retrofitting HIDs into a car that didn't come with them.

A few things worth noting:
(1) OE HID bulbs will likely produce more consistent result than aftermarket. On my D2S projectors, 1 of my 5 bulb pairs had a beam pattern that didn't have as strong hotspot than the others. And this was Morimoto, not a no-name aftermarket. By OE I mean Philips, Osram, etc. Ymmv.
(2) Even in OE halogen projector applications, over time, the reflector bowl surface can degrade. Going with a higher power halogen bulb ( = more infra red radiation = heat ) or going with a not so reputable HID bulb ( = more UV radiation ) can accelerate this damage.
(3) If you can find a pair of projectors designed for OE HID bulbs (preferably, the D2S bulb base) instead of the rebased HID bulbs (e.g. to match the base of halogen bulb types like H1 etc.), then it will be worth your money & effort spent on the retrofit than the easier PnP solution. Having said that, a H11 rebased HID kit on a H11 halogen projector, properly aimed, will not blind oncoming traffic. The amount of benefit to you might not be as big in terms of distance lighting. With a D2S projector, you can minimize the up front cost by choosing a moderate priced bulb (but not from a no-name aftermarket), and then later get a pair of OE bulb with higher lumens rating.

I bought and installed used OEM HID headlight assemblies in my 2011 WRX. I didn't realize that I needed the headlight levelling motor to adjust where they are pointing, and neither came with it.

Does anyone have any tips for how I can either adjust the bulbs without the motor, or find and install the leveller motors on the headlight assemblies?

Thanks,

Ive read about Headlight wiring for different modifications.
I understand the Low-High/grounding switching through headlight switch but can not figure out how to install this Morimoto LED2 kit with son to make it work properly. Currently when powered only high beams work continuously, high or low beam switch position. The kit just uses a splitter from the H4 headlight plug, however it places ground on the center pin and the high and low on the 2 side pins. Very different than what Subaru does.

I've seen lots of input for the HID kits where Mulder suggests running the kit grounds to chassis but Im not clear how switching takes place.
I'm a bit leary on swapping grounds around any son has already burned up one control unti trying various wiring swaps.

If you can provide and help I'd appreciate it.
