Portola Valley is beautiful!!! Not much happening there, except for horses and billionaire Internet types.

For meets, go to I-Clubs Nor-Cal chapter. You will find meet info posted there.

The ECU has readiness monitors for various emissions systems. Like you have to have driven through XYZ condition for codes ABC. Like X amount of cruising at 2500-3500. Once it sees those conditions it flips a bit that the check is adequate for those codes. There's several different readiness monitors.

If you turn off codes, then be sure the ECU hasn't been reset in a week or two so the readiness monitors are passed. I don't know much about Cobb, but I road tune open source stuff locally, it has an option for forcing the readiness monitors to pass, so as soon as you reset the ECU you can get tested without driving around and getting them all to reset.

I honestly would leave the car registered over there in Colorado for as long as you can. When you have to switch it over, try to get it registered in a no-smog county. There are many of them around the "gold country" valley area. That way, when you smog, you will not have to do it ever again after the initial registration renewal.

I know that they do a lot more as far as "conditioning" an out of state car but I have only heard stories and not been through the process myself. I also have heard that E85 will pass you through the emissions smog as long as you pass visual for cats which can also mean bolting a cat-look-alike heat shield in the stock location.

They've never looked for the up-pipe cat on my car when I smogged it 3 years ago. I'm registered in a no smog county so it's all catless for me except the hi-flo in the COBB turbo-back. I have it in there simply for noise dampening and not as obvious to cops smell/smoke wise. I've never been dinged for sound in my strict-ass town with the COBB system but got drilled with eBay HKS knock-off and a COBB knock-off catbacks. If you get a quieter aftermarket exhaust, paint the muffler flat black. They are attracted to shiny things around here like crows. That should keep some of them from swarming you.

You can't have tinted front windows or windshield. At ALL. I had dealer tint on my car because it was from Nebraska Omaha Subaru and it was pretty light tint. Got pulled over for that in San Rafael. I pulled it off right in front of him to skip the ticket and then drove away and he saw my eBay HKS replica exhaust and pulled me over again :smh:

Always shift to 4th or 5th or clutch-in while driving around town/highway near a cop. If they can "feel" you passing they'll pull you over. Get a radar detector. Mine's saved my ass trillions of times. They only use Ka around here from what I've seen. Don't use colored lights or HIDs. If you have a ton of stickers on your car like my parts getting slammed corolla you may get stalked.

I've been followed for 2+ miles several times and even all the way to my own damn house. They've ridden my bumper 2ft off of me to the point I couldn't see their headlights simply because they thought I looked "shady" and when they have nothing on me, they'll pull off the side of the road and turn around to go back to their hiding spot. I've counted 8 separate instances of this. One time they saw I was a bearded skinny white guy and literally rolled their eyes and pulled over. Never saw him again. LOL

I genuinely hate local cops... and CA emissions.

Make sure there are no detectable codes in your ecu also, they are really big on that. I had a 86 OBD1 Camaro which was throwing tons of codes from an engine swap so I tried pulling the gauge bulb- that didn't work

I might add, if you are going to be in Portola Valley, keep the car low key. The sheriffs keep that place locked down. They hassle us bicycle riders, as well as motorcyclists and car guys all the time.
DON'T SPEED 10mph over the limit around there (especially near Roberts Market) They are very good at hiding. I can see them hiding out while riding my bicycle. They are cool if you are cool.

Well here is an update . I have torn the tiny off my windows , I'm keeping my colorado registration as long as possible . I have been driving around sf downtown and everywhere Else with my straightpipe , Pretty funny breaking necks in downtown . I do have a stock sti cat back with an hks dp That I'm going to throw on ! . I'm going to take off my stickers ASAP . But so far I haven't gotten any trouble from the police(although I drive like a grandma most of the time ) . It's been good here ! I'm going to the NorCal bugeye society meet tonight in Vacaville which will be fun !

Bikelok thanks I have been very cautious about the portola valley police . The other day they were heading towards me and I just turned my car off at the light .

Damn, I should have gone to the meet. I didn't realize there was one. I was up that way. If you have never been to Santa Cruz you should swing down here one of these days. The 17 is amazing or... the 9!!!
