Header question...
Is it necessary to purchase a header with an uppipe, for example the XX Tuning header or even the GT Spec header. Can't we just get the header because our uppipes are already catless, right?

The GT Spec header uses a different flange on the uppipe (3 bolt vs 2 bolt) so you must use theirs. The GPmoto also has an integrated uppipe so again, no choice. This is a moot point because you easily have thousands of people willing to buy your stock uppipe if you don't need it.

Erik, you can go with the WorldOne/HKS replica. That is a direct swap with them OEM uppipe. Also you could run the Borla header, Cusco header or even the B&B header.

I've had very good luck with the GT Spec header on STi's even with stock turbos. The uppipe they include is a little different design than the stock one and is much lighter than the stock one so it's not necessarily a bad thing to change it out.

Only get aftermarket headers if you plan on having them wrapped or coated. The stock headers perform better than most aftermarket headers that are left "naked". This is b/c the stock headers are notoriously good at holding in heat.
Aftermarket headers have even been proven to lose power unless wrapped/coated. Dyno's dont lie..... So in summary, if you're gonna get them wrapped/coated go for it and be happy in your work |
