I have my STi for over a week now, and with 950 miles on BP 93 Gold I've visited forbiden lands of WOT multiple times and no ping at all, of course after oil change at 700 miles. They might have flashed new STi's on third allocation already. BTW this car pulls out of ditches very well, praise the AWD

Dealer told me to bring my car in, that they have heard of the problem. They told me the tech would need to drive it and then "run a few tests" it would take about 2-3 hrs. Then about 45 mins later service manager comes back tells me there is no need to drive it, they got the "numbers" they needed and they are completely aware of the problem. They said they would contact me to bring in the car again so that the ECU could be shipped, something about they had to fax some things in to SOA. I will be receiving a loaner for three days.
I am pinging on Sinclair 93 WOT through 4-5 grand. |

Ringboy. Great response from your dealer to the det issue. Seems like word is getting around on the reflash. I think Subaru is to be commended on the way this was promptly handled, and of course the knowledgeable folks on this board who pressed the issue with Subaru. It would still be nice if the folks who are not on this board were notified of this issue, so they could avail themselves of the reflash

Wolverine,
I am located in OKlahoma City, but I purchased the car in Salt Lake City. I have found one other STi owner in the area who purchased his car here. He has no det issues. Hopefully the dealer will contact me soon for the fix. |

We just executed our first same-day reflash turnaround, from dropoff to pickup. The problem was previously logged and filed so this was just the reflash step, but we're pretty happy with it anyway.

lol yes.. and the poor owner (while VERY happy about the same day reflash) was just on the phone with me complaining about how slow the legacy is that she's driving...

Wolverine---If Porter was made CEO of Subaru North America, this problem would be solved pronto. I think you should lead a drive to recall the "governor" of Subaru of California

Had my reflash done
It was a pretty painless process. The dealer didn't need to drive the car to test for pinging. 2 day turn around. And now no more pinging for me. Can't tell if power was affected as I had 2 people in the car with me.

Local Suby mechanic recently attended a Subaru training class
on the Sti. In a nut shell he mentioned that there was a 30hp decrease with the reflash and that once the Sti ecu was reflashed with the ping fix, it could never be updated again. Just info I heard from a very qualified suby mechanic. |

Well I have some good news.
I have set up a Dyno day for 8/30, in which an STi with the re-flash will be there for some dyno runs! I will get some comparison runs from a stock STi before the flash also. Hopefully answers will be on the way shortly! |

According to that mechanic every STI with a reflash morphs into an EVO........Kinda hard to believe, unless Subaru has detuned this thing to the point it now only needs regular unleaded. Tractor Piss.

The "could never be updated again" part seems like total BS to me... which makes me thinks that the 30 hp is also total BS since the reflash corrects a problem that does not happen at peak HP... nothing against you sube... I just think your mechanic has/gives wrong info. Subaru had to rush the reflsh fix out... I would doubt that the STi mechanic trainning course has already been updated with this info ... they are running on the rumor mill... just like us. |

My butt dyno registers the same power as before, and within the week we'll have hopefully have before and after dyno plots from the same car on the same dyno. All three of the customers that we've reflashed have commented that the car seems just as fast as it was before, only smoother in its power delivery. The last customer commented that it seems more "sorted" now, as if it perhaps benefited from some development time. The "can't be reflashed" thing is total nonsense. What he means is that once flashed, it cannot be flashed back to its original state. Which is true because the system won't allow you to backdate a later version of the ECM software to an earlier version. |

Yea....I am not counting the information as a fact. We seem to know more than SOA sometimes.
Dyno runs will show the answer. Quote:
