Post New WRX source of quick ratio steering rack?

Something that just occurred to me was this... Since we know that a good deal of the new cars suspension is the same as the old car... is the steering rack interchangeable? If so, is the rack in the new WRX the same ratio as what used to be found in the RHD WRX racks? This might be the solution to the only problem with building a LHD impreza :-)

I asked this on the UK board about 2 months ago, your best bet if any is to get this custom done. It's about 300 dollars since new gears are to be made for the rack and pinion. you can take the steering rack out pretty easily, from what I read it's held up by 4-6 bolts :0 . I'll be doing this later in the future.

I must comment on the steering column design though, it's a piece! there are 3 joints after the firewall that connect the rod to the rack. There is not need for that!

I wonder if the STi RA rack will be available in a LHD format? That rack has an even quicker ratio than the WRX. You guys should talk with some of the rally builder (ie Brett Middelton or Possum Bourne) as I'm sure they quick ratio racks.

The STi quick rack is available in LHD. Only trouble is there are only about 6 or 7 available and they cost (are you sitting down?) $2700, plus about $500 for the competition pump.

The good news is the new WRX has a quicker rack than the RS (about 3 turns lock to lock compared to aboooout 3.2). I believe it will interchange directly with the RS, though I haven't confirmed it.

I think the ratio is still ~16:1. The STi quick rack is 13:1
