I bought my last Pioneer radio through an authorized vendor "fulfilled" by Amazon and Pioneer wouldn't touch it within the warranty period. I had no invoice from the vendor, only from Amazon and the vendor had no records. Hope it works out better for you, but that's the reason I push the authorized thing so much with Pioneer products.

A lot of the questions here are basically, what are the advantages to the Appradio3 over the Appradio2, especially with the Appradio2 currently available at your local Best Buy for $280.

I was under the impression that Appradio3's biggest advantage was MirrorLink (with MirrorLink enabled devices), and that Mirrorlink basically mimics the same activity that is achieved with ARLiberator, but it does so out-of-the-box, and wouldn't require root.

Is this not the case?

Is the Samsung Galaxy S4 mirrorlink enabled?

It would seem that by the time you purchase the AppRadio2, root your phone, purchase ARLiberator, fool around trying to get it to work with the S4, one would have been ahead (money + time) just purchasing the non-DVD version of the AppRadio3, not to mention the Bluetooth capability of the AppRadio3 missing on the AppRadio2.

What am I missing here?

Point taken, I haven't heard good things when in comes to app radio support from pioneer anyways so prob not a big deal

No, Mirror Link is not the same as ARLiberator.

ARLiberator 100% completely mimics your cell phone. My understanding of ML is that it only gives you access to approved apps, not all of them. It does not "mirror" your phone like you would think it should but only displays the icons that are approved.

ARLiberator isn't for you if you don't like to tweak....it requires some work to get it working 100%.

I now am running a dedicated phone and its working exactly how I want, couldn't be happier.

Mirror link is just a different way of connecting to pioneer's pathetic umbrella app in order to get around Samsung's proprietary mhl arrangement.

ARL, with a proper mhl connector, fully mirrors the phone & uses low level Linux commands over bluetooth to transmit touch commands. It results in low latency, whereas I've not heard good things about mirror link latency (fairly high I've heard).

I don't run a dedicated phone, but it's not hard to get arl up and running with the current version. All one needs to do is root the phone. The rest (bt autoconnect, Tasker, etc) is purely optional now.

Question about ArLiberator, is there an option to turn off screen rotation? Every time I disconnect from the car it turns on my screen rotation and power save. Gets rather annoying. I don't see the option to unchecked it in settings.

Yeah I only run a dedicated phone for ease of use and connection. Plus my Rezound gets uber hot really quick even with the screen off and has even shut itself down due to overheating. This is a Rezound issue though, not ARL or AP2.

To the answer above you need to look into Tasker. It will "fix" all of these issues with a little work. You may also need to play with your display rotation settings or even switch to a different launcher, I've found Apex works best for rotation issues..ymmv.

Apex is just a superior launcher, period.

Well, unfortunatly with all the other stuff I had to do to the car today the radio didn't make it in. I did get the factory harness all spliced, soldered, and shrink wrapped back together though. I also have the pioneer harness mostly connected to the Crutchfield harness but it still needs solder and shrink wrap. My OEM radio brackets should be here on Monday and I'm hoping to have the radio fully installed Monday/Tuesday. My apologies to anyone who was waiting for my review/video.

Skull,

You are absolutely right that if the product is fulfilled by Amazon(Prime Eligible) it is not coming from the pioneer authorized reseller. BUT, if you by from the seller on Amazon and it is not fulfilled by Amazon, it IS coming from the Pioneer authorized reseller and is eligible for warranty.

Which sellers on amazon are authorized? Im really interested in this. I always use pandora and seldom even listen to the radio or anything else.

This is the list of the ONLY authorized online vendors:

Well, I got antsy and finished up the wiring harness and e-brake bypass and got the radio in. Still not hard mounted because I have no mounting brackets and I still haven't run the GPS antenna or bluetooth mic.

Here are the things I have noticed so far:
  • The unit is pretty fast and very responsive to touch input.
  • Sound quality is pretty good out of the box but I haven't gotten a chance to play with the sound settings yet.
  • Bluetooth connectivity is great with the iPhone 4s and very simple.
  • Unfortunatly no radio when in app mode still. There has been talk about this getting changed, but nothing yet.
  • No touch input on the screen in Waze and the screen resultion in that app suck, it's all controlled from the phone.

Other than that I haven't gotten a chance to mess with it yet. One word of wisdom, if you want to set the clock you need to HOLD DOWN on the time to get into the setting for the clock. It's not in settings.

Here's how it looks installed in the bugeye dash:

Once I get the rest of the stuff installed tomorrow/Tuesday and spend an hour or so with the unit I'll set up the camera mount and do a full video review.

Awesome!

Id probably be sold on it as long as I don't have to touch the phone once they're paired up. Of course I have a DROID x and not an iphone. Lol.

Not sure with a droid, but with the iPhone it definitely still requires a lot of input from the phone depending on what app you are using. I'm going to try out Motion X GPS and see if I like it better than Waze.

id like to hear more about the sound quality post installation. i have a 4 channel alpine amp and, while it helped, i hope the head unit will really clean up the sound.

I don't believe those head units have RCA outputs. You would have to use a line out converter, so I wouldn't expect a whole lot.

The appradio model is not really targeted to be used in high end systems. If you want app radio that is designed for use with systems like the AVH-X5500BHS.

And skull, you probably can use the radio while using app mode. It's an option under settings on the HU. For some genius reason, it defaults to disabled (why god why?)

What ebrake bypass did you end up getting? Thanks for the small update!

Yes, the unit does have RCA outputs. Just no subwoofer specific output. I'll look into the radio + app mode thing. Maybe later tonight, but I know it was an issue with the AR2.

Just a toggle switch with one end to ground and the other end to the parking brake cable on the radio harness.

i dont plan on adding a line converter or a sub. im not looking for a competition system by any stretch of the imagination. will the head unit be enough to finish off my audio set up after the amp?

I don't see why not. I haven't really played with it yet, but right out of the box it sounds WAY better than my Clarion flip out screen that was in there from the previous owner. Now I just need to figure out what he did to the factory subwoofer and get it working again.

It's a switchable rear/sub preout. So, if you use it as a sub out & use the front preout to send to your 4ch amp for the door speakers, you'll lose fader controls.
