Are you buying the 02 extension?
You can easily make one for like $5.

Also, where'd you get the gaskets from and how much, one of mine is sorta done for, not sure wtf happened.

i had trouble with the header to catpipe gasket and the catpipie to midpipe gasket (the "donut", as its commonly referred to) just make sure you have absolutely no leaks upstream from the O2 sensors or it will effect the O2 readings which will in turn effect your CL fueling.

Bolt your headers to your motor first. Tighten them.

Next, cat pipe. Keep to bolts loose between the header/cat. Tighten the one bolt to the tranny mount first!

Then tighten the header/cat bolts.

I have changed mine so many times haha

^^ Yes, make sure the 02 extension doesn't hang near the exhaust anywhere.

This may be totally obvious but just tossing it out there:

Make sure not to connect your o2 sensors until after they are reinstalled. Also disconnect them before you put a wrench on the sensor.

Use a flare-end wrench on the o2 sensors if you can, much lower chance of rounding off the flats.

You will likely require a o2 spacer (spark plug non-fouler x2 or an actual machined spacer) to remove your rear o2 sensor from the exhaust stream in order to avoid CEL codes related to cat efficiency, unless you plan to use opensource to turn off that CEL flag (not sure how to do this, just know it's possible on newer ECUs).

Use windex as a lubricant on the KB hangers, they're kind of a PITA to get on, but then again I did it with the car just barely jacked up (not a good idea, would be 20x easier on a lift). The windex won't leave a residue and will not damage the urethane.

Check for clearance between the headers and your power steering rack/lines, crossmember, and front swaybar after installation. Mine was too close the first time I installed it and rattled. I actually installed a "custom compound gasket" comprised of two OE header gaskets on each side with hi-temp red RTV silicone in between. You probably won't have to do that but it's just an idea if you run into clearance issues. If you do that make sure to apply just a little extra torque to the nuts on the exhaust studs since you're compressing more material. Also, make sure the silicone cures for a least a few hours before you start the car up... Otherwise you're guaranteed leaks.

Best of luck!

What about the torque specifications on the headers? 37 ft/lbs or something like that isn't it?

I honestly don't know on the 06 models. I think that may be listed in one of the header install threads.

Talking Happy!!!

Hey guys so my headerback exhaust was a complete success and fairly easy to do. I did not need the o2 spacer, with the just the extension it worked fine. No problems what so ever, no cel's, nothing. A very clean, very nice install. And omg is the sound sexy. I drove out almost a full tank of gas tonight after i got it done. Anyone with a 2.5i wanting something to give them that boxer wrx rumble and increased torque and power this is a must!!!

I have some pics on my camera, some before and after, pics of the install and pics of my old parts from the car. I will post them tomorrow or monday when ever i get the card adaptor from my friend to upload them.

You may still need an O2 spacer, I thought I was good to go too but then after about 500 KM's the CEL popped up.

Talking

So here are some pics of the install..........

Stock manifold off.

Open block, old exhaust completly removed preparing for the header install.

Bolting up the borla header.

Have to reroute the o2 sensor wires the oposite way down toward the header. I just securley tied them down to other wiring harness's with zip ties.

Stromung high flow cat pipe put on and the o2 sensors hanging down before connecting them.

Mid pipe installed and a random pic of the guy helping me son lol........

Pic of my axle back, last piece of the install.

Everything is bolted up and fired her up to check for leaks.

The finished product.

Now after driving it around that night and the next day i had to go and retighten all the bolts bc once the gaskets setled and shrunk a lil from the heat it has a minor exhaust leak right after the cat. But it was a very simple, but time consuming install. Ended up very nice, no cel's, and a noticable increase in power and the sound is super sexy.
