Got the estimate for fixing my car today
$3488.25 for a 25-30 mph collision. Freakin disposable cars, nowadays. My SAAB would've taken it better. Oh, well, at least the airbags didn't blow. They certainly don't build 'em like they used to!! Oh, well, shouldn't be a total, at least. Which is good, 'cause I love this car!!! I'll call a body shop tomorrow.

Crash survivability is a trade off between the car surviving and the passengers. In the 60's and 70's the car was really tough so it survived the crash but the occupants didn't. Now it is the opposite. The energy has to be shed somewhere. All those pieces bending and brake absorb energy that other wise you would have to. Which would you rather have you or your car creamed. I vote for the car.

I know that's the case. My mom's '96 Legacy gave it's life for mine, and I thank it for that, but I do expect the car to hold up better in a lower speed collision.

Hey, don't feel too bad. When I had my OBS, I had an accident at about 20 mph, and there was over $11,000 in damage. It didn't even look that bad:

Thanks, guys. I'm glad there's not $11,000 worth of damage to my car, a '96 Impreza Brighton is only worth about $7700! Mine looked a lot worse until my dad and I did some BFH engineering to get it driveable again. He and I were literally jumping up and down on the hood (off the car, of course) to get it close to it's original shape. Doesn't look too bad now, but looked pretty bad immediately following the accident. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner or digital camera (yet), but I'll snap some pics before I get it fixed. I'm trying to find some front end parts from '00 RS for the car, preferrably in Silverthorn Metallic, then I'm gonna add some other silver graphics to the side which should look really nice with the dark green. I also have an L spoiler that I'm gonna get painted and installed when I get the car fixed. I look at this as an oportunity to better the car!!

5 Door,
as I've learned double the figure for the estimate time and that's when you should have yur car back. If you're lucky... h/k hopefully that won't be the case with you. I've had one of those $11k accidents, took me 2 1/2 months to get my car back and that's with the body shop working on the car before they got the check. |
