I lol'd

But the issue isn't the meet or the thread it's the individuals who have personal issue with each other that need to be worked out. They need cool off time, not the thread.

+1 I think a lot of us are a little uptight about private meets. Not that others shouldn't have them if they want, but some of us might be a little uncomfortable in a Nu Psi Gamma Sigma club. I for one was not a frat man and I wouldn't have found you'll if it wasn't for this message board and open posting of meets. Having the private situation would exclude introducing new members for the most part.

Also, I hate to see this board "nuked" for the same reason. Not only would it deprive us all of chat and information but it would not be a possible inroad for new Subaru owners to become members and go to meets. I think that the dialogue here for the last two days has been civil, informational, and is leading us toward better understanding and will eventually bring the group back together. I'm more encouraged than I was a week ago. I suspect, in private, cool heads are prevailing and see no reason for shutting the thread down.

JFK said, "An error doesn't become a mistake until you refuse to fix it." Personally, I think it would be an error to have private meetings and to destroy this meassage board. (And if, indeed, there was anyone with those evil intentions, wouldn't those actions, Jack, just let him or her win at our loss?)

A cooling off period does seem like a good idea. Then if at some point we could just turn the clock back and do business as usual--like last July with open meets and a friendly thread here--things might get back to normal. After that, if any interlopers or other negative posts came in, wouldn't it be better to just ignore them and not respond, than to have everything ruined for the great majority of us who are for fun and friendship?

Just my 2 cents.

I really think this is the best option. I have been on a lot of message boards and some of the speed3 boards were way more offensive than this one but people just shook them off and continued on.
People don't have to like everyone but we shouldn't bring the whole thread down because of it.

At most keep it to a minimum.

Sunday ramble...

I freely confess to being a car guy. After all, that's what brought me to this site in the first place. I'm guessing that there are many other car guys and girls here too, I thought I might start to post a list of cars I have owned hoping that it might elicit comments and motivate others to post their own lists to share. I know it's kind of a cliche to do lists of (fill in the blank)'s but here goes anyway. If it doesn't work, it's going to be a long boring winter for me here.

Car: 1949 Cadillac 62. Battleship gray. V-8. Hydromatic transmission.
Comment: It wasn't really mine but it was the car I learned to drive on with the best dad in the world. Driveways and parking lots first and then the highway at fifteen years old. You always remember your first one.

Car: 1949 Buick Super. Black. "Fire Ball" straight 8. Dynaflow "Dynaslush" transmission.
Comment: It was a step down for the Sunrise family during hard times but it was the first car I drove solo after getting my license. Mother told me that if I couldn't say anything nice to keep my mouth shut. No further comment on the Buick.

194? Villiers. Cream and black. 1 cylinder. Used. Got it in trade for $20. and a Mossberg 151K.
Comment: It only had two wheels and you had to mix the gas with oil. Top speed was 65 MPH even when drafting but it got me to Hampton Beach and it was the first vehicle I actually owned myself. At least it wasn't a Vespa. I lusted for an Indian or a Beesa.

1949 Chevrolet Deluxe Business Coupe. Metallic green. Straight 6. Three on the tree. Used @ $100
Comment: Bought it with 39k miles from a LOL. Finally four wheels and a pink slip. The guys with the Fords and Mercs laughed but I drove it to California and back and it lasted me almost another 100,000 miles. Porter Seal did wonders for the cracked block. The back seat had stirrups but my adolescent fantasies were never fulfilled. It never died; it just faded away.

1967 Fiat Fiat 850 Spyder. Ferrari red. 4 Cylinder, rear engine. Four on the floor. New @ $1800.
Comment: Remember now, in '67 hamburger flippers were making a buck an hour. This ride was underpowered and really REALLY required premium gas but I had more positive remarks on the car's appearance than any other car I've owned since. Drove it in Northern California rallyes and then back to BOS with g/f via VAN and the trans Canada Highway. (Note to all you Lotharios out there. Don't let the lack of a back seat deter you from buying a car. I was able to do the nasty in a Fiat 850 so anything is possible.) Returned to Cali via I-80 on a fast trip with a large suitcase on the trunk luggage rack creating drag. Aerodynamics works both ways. Back in SFO with about 20,000 miles on the odo the mechanic told us the valves were shot. They blamed it on the suitcase, hahaha. Fix it again Tony! Time for a new car. You don't have to junk those things. Just wheel it out of the driveway and set it beside the weekly trash.

I'll take a break here in case everyone is asleep. If I continue into the twenty-first century it gets more interesting with T-Birds, Jaguars, Lexus, Infinit, a Trans Am and finally the best car of them all. A 2012 Subaru Impreza.

Happy Sunday!

Cheers from eastofthesunrise :-)

Anyone who read my last post might be asking what the heck a 1949 Cadillac has to do with modern Subaru's on the eve of the year 2013? For me it was the first mile of a long road that ended up in the parking lot of a Fitchburg restaurant with me driving an Impreza and meeting some of you. I want to share the evolution of my thinking which brought me to a conclusion which you all came to earlier in life. I was hoping that others might list the cars they had formerly owned and thus I could track the their thought process. For some, it may even be their first car in which case I wonder how they were smart enough to buy one without any other prior experience. We can learn from our experiences, both bad and good, and be guided in the choice of our next vehicle. Even as I write this, I am thinking of trading.

My next series of cars promises to be more modern and the 1968 model I will name and comment on was indeed ahead of its time and has become a modern day cult classic among a few dedicated followers. It is one of the few cars I regret ever selling. 1968 was the dawn of the muscle car era. But this two door coup was not manufactured by any of the big three and in its styling was way ahead of it's time. After over forty years it would blend in well at any of our meets and not look dated IMO. Here's a clue for any history buffs out there. The car I'm describing had a distant relationship with Mitt Romney's father. Can you guess what the car was?

Sweet list. Can't wait for the rest. I feel like I was born in the wrong era.

Ill start mine.

88 Chevy Corsica. 2.8 v6. My parents old car. I loved the completely red interior not. This thing got me to school for like a month and died.

95 Chevy Blazer. 4.3 v6. My parents consigned for me. When I almost flipped it I knew it was time for a car.

96 Ford Probe GT. 2.5 v6 - 5 speed. My first car that I loved. I had this for 4 years. This is when I started modifying cars. At the end of ownership this thing looked like something out of the fast and furious. Ooh I was young and stupid.

96 Hyundai Accent. 1.5 I4. This became a winter beater. I beat the living crap out of this and it never died. I ended up giving this thing away.

04 Dodge SRT-4. 2.4 I4. Yes. Yes. I know everyone hates them but I loved this car. Big turbo'd and it made close to 400whp.

87 Jeep Wrangler. 4.2 I6. Another winter beater. This caught on fire after a month.

06 Dodge Charger R/T. 5.7 v8. I owned this for 3 years. Super reliable. Sounded amazing and was quick for a boat.

97 Jeep Wrangler. 2.4 I4. Soo dreadfully slow but great winter beater and fun in the summer.

08 VW GTi. 2.0t. I had this thing dumped on Faux BBS ch's. Fun car but German cars are expensive to mod and a bi?!h to work on.

96 Ford Bronco. 5.8. Another beater. I'm still working on this thing. It just kinda sits in my driveway.

00 Dodge Caravan. 3.3 v6. Another beater. I bring this thing around sometimes. 225k and still going.

11 Subaru WRX STi. My fav car so far. We will see how long I keep this car.

Plus jet ski, boat , and a motorcycle.

That's it

Well my list is rather long for my age but all started when I was 15...

1995 Acura Legend. 3.2 V6 manual trans... Car never did get on the road... Sold it to my cousin.

1987 Toyota Supra 7MGE automatic had 80k miles in it was crazy clean, hit a pole in the winter totaling that one..

2002 Audi A4 2.8 V6 me and my dad went halfs in the car cuz it was only $2k, cuz it needed some work but I drove that for a few months and my brother got in a wreck and totaled that one.

1992 Toyota Pickup 4cyl manual trans.. Had 3" body lift and 33x12.5 the truck went anywhere and I had lots of good times with it!!

1988 Toyota Supra 7MGTE. Manual trans, turbo this time had an OBX exhaust, the motor was supposedly built, it did have racing seats off eBay and some cage looking thing. Lol that I wrapped around a pole in front of my house!! Literally wrapped around!

Then I realized I had to smarten up cuz at this point I had lost my license twice and gone through tooo many cars.. Lol I was only 17 at this point!!!

2004 Mazdaspeed Protege... This was one of my favorite cars.. Say what u want but it was pretty quick, the trans was great, it handled awesome and just overall was a blast to drive.. This was the first car I really modded and I raced this car regularly at school in auto X events and probably 50 passes down the 1/4 mile.. And it made it from Ohio to mass atleast 15 times!! But it did eventually blow up like all the Mazdaspeed protégés do at around 120k miles.. So I ended up putting a motor in that car and selling it.

2002 Acura RSX type S.. This was another awesome car!!!! Kinda wish I still had it but Ohhh well.. This car was slightly modded when I got it and then I added a few more things.. This car also did many auto X events and a few passes down the track.. But ended up trading straight up for one of my currents pride an joys!!

2000 Honda S2000, this car had a bad motor when I traded it.... That didn't stop me, so I ended building the motor completely, 13:1 compression, AEM V2 standalone ECU, HKS exhaust... The whole deal.. This was just a year ago at this point.. And I put 750 miles on my $7500 motor and a stock valve spring retainer cracked and dropped a valve into my motor.... :'( so that's in the middle of getting re-rebuilt... So I came home from school and bought my friends old car.

1989 Mazda 323 GT, this is a great car except it is so old it's always needing attention.. And I didn't have time for that, the turbo went out about a month ago leading us up to my second pride and joy...

2004 Subaru WRX Impreza Wagon... I love this car and it is currently all stock but will be getting some much needed attention soon!!

My list is way shorter than the previous.

1. 1994 Buick LeSabre 3.8 v6 auto loaded with every option, and a bench seat Was it a boat? Yes. But I loved it.

2. 2001 Honda Accord dx 5-speed. Slow and ridiculously reliable. Perfect commuter car and perfect car to learn manual on. Looking back now I should have kept it as a commuter.

3. 2004 Subaru WRX wagon 5-speed. Best car of the lot of course. Making its way to stage 2 soon!

1. 1991 Dodge Spirit - $300 car - First car and shared with my sister when she was home from college - Later blew the motor soon after I got car #2.
2. 1991 Plymouth Laser - Pretty hideous, previous owner painted the interior bright blue. I put a system in it, traded a dirt bike for a head rebuild. Sister warped the head running it out of coolant after I bought #3.
3. 2003 Ford Focus ZX3 - bought when I was a Ford Tech. Traded in
4. 2003 Mazda 6 - Really nice car but wish I didn't spend the money since the Focus was a good car and would have been paid off shortly after - dumb young decisions
5. 2007 Kawasaki ZX-6R 636 - Very fun and fast bike but after a few close calls and a few friends getting into serious accidents I decided if I go back to 2 wheels it will be on dirt only (well...maybe super mototard).
6. 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 - Really awesome car, definitely the fastest I have owned (Still) but Ashburnham roads are terrible and the thing blew out 3 sets of rear shocks and so many endlinks and sway bar bushings it got annoying. I had enough one week and traded it in soon after.
7. 2009 Subaru WRX sedan - Good car but I hated that it wasn't a hatch. Traded in...
8. 2012 Subaru WRX hatch - Going on 5 months and 5,000 miles!

Those with taste remember these cars! I've looked at a few while trying to find a good project car. Definitely ahead of its time styling wise.

And then lop off the back with a hack saw and call it a Gremlin X. Drove one, was impressed. Like a 318ti ahead of its time.

I think my favorite part about them is that there aren't many at the shows. I'm sick of seeing old coupes and 69 camaros, they're great but they all start to look the same. There was an AMX at the Kimball's cruise night in Lancaster over the summer that had custom flared body work and it was beautiful, if only because it was a change from the same old stuff.

Wow! I didn't expect so many responses so soon. I'm encouraged to suggest some other lists that might help revive this old site. This is a great website with great people. I did some research on other area clubs and found out that this little section of Worcester County has almost as many posts as the entire Southern California NASOIC site! Who says California is car country? I'll hold off on the other lists for now and concentrate on this one but if anyone else has a list idea, go at it and we can do them at the same time to give me a break. Like today, I have an appointment so this will be a short post. Mostl of all, thanks to all who posted!

OK, it's Monday morning. Let's pop in an eight track and continue our drive down memory lane. <Opens up the driver's door> Wait. You drive and that will give me a chance to talk. It's all chill brothers...

Two of you came so so soooo close in guessing the car. I think I unintentionally threw the experts off by describing the car I really wanted instead of the car I actually bought. Tony, the Rambler was a relative to my car. If you remember it, it was every father's fear who had a teenage daughter. The Rambler's seats went down. So you got it, Jack. Here is the pic.

That was what I would have liked but I settled for an American Motors Javelin.

Car: 1968 American Motors Javelin. Russet. Inline 6. Three on the tree. (As you know, Jack, the AMX had a big mofo V-8, four on the floor, big sticky performance tires and NO back seat.)

I gots to run now so I'll save the comment til later.

For the experts out there. In 1975 I did a total turnaround and bought my second foreign car. It had an inline 4 cylinder engine and the model number meant "second series, four cylinders, four doors". 244 It has also become somewhat of a cult car. Can anyone guess it?

If you 'all liked the eight track while we were driving this morning, you might have some favorite driving songs. Especially to the younger members, I'd love to know what you are listening to on your roadtrips.

Laterz...

Used to have a quadrophonic 8 track in my 69 Ford van and remember having Aerosmith "Rocks".

There's a "all the cars you've ever owned" thread in OT. I have a few dozen cars on my list there.....
