![]() The 2017's have a factory warranty that covers it so why include them? I'm asking if the problem was fixed at the factory? Or if a later lawsuit is to be expected with the 18/19's as well? There was a HP increase and if they fixed internals, it would explain why Subaru randomly decided to add nominal HP.

![]() So if they're giving people extended warranty as part of the settlement, and I bought extended warranty when I bought the car two years ago, I'm wondering if I have any basis for a refund from the dealership...I'm thinking no, but it won't hurt to ask?

2012-2018 sti all same shortblock internals. 2019 sti has the thicker RA pistons. The problem is with the rod bearings,I guess it is possible they switched to a different supplier of something for the bearing for 2018..? if not than still same block as before. |

![]() There has been an uptick in sliver on UOA's since around 2012. Which can indicate premature were in the bearings. You did not see that in earlier model yrs. Coincidence, I don't think so.

![]() That's what i'm hoping for, best case scenario, during litigation they decided it was cheaper to get a new supplier for 2018+, than to risk another lawsuit they are sure to lose and pay for dealer repairs.

![]() I just purchased a new WRB 2019 STI and I am keeping it stock. I purchased the extended full bumper to bumper warranty from Subaru which will cover me for 8 years or 80,000 miles. At least I have peace of mind for that time frame. It is a fun car to drive as it is and it feels and drives way better than my 2011 STI that I got rid of.

![]() So the settlement only affects people that experienced issues? I purchased a 2013 brand new but sold it about 3 years ago. I had no problems related to the rod bearings with it during my ownership.

![]() 2012 WRX 97,484 miles engine just started knocking today. So calling dealership Monday, hopping they will cover it.
Have noticed some lost of power few months ago but thought it was just winter gas. |

![]() A 2012 and 2013 I think the other one was a 16 but his wasn't covered under warranty. Because he ran it 30,000 miles with no oil changes and ecu said the engine hit over 9,000 rpms.
There was another one but he took it back home because he had an tuner it and dealership said it was not going to warranty it. |

But, IMHO, the takeaway is simple enough: If you beat on any car, or modify it to extract evermore hp, eventually it's going to break. It's all in how you drive 'em. |

Those people DESERVE justice and compensation for the heartache of knowing they COULD have had issues. There's also a settlement coming for anyone who traveled by airplane between 2014 and 2016 who landed safely to compensate them for the fact that their planes could have crashed. |

![]() Update: 5/28
Rod bearing number 2 is toast. Rod bearings 1 and 3 are scored. Turbocharger doesn't spin freely. They will replace short block, but I have to pay for heads to be rebuilt and cleaned and buckets to be replaced. Also doing timing belt kit and clutch and flywheel. So free labor there. I thought the heads and turbocharger would be covered because of lack of oil from rod bearings, but guess not. Total out of pocket $3,870. Including turbocharger.
