Default 2016 WRX ABS, Traction, HIll Assist lights On

Hello guys,

As the title says, I have a 2016 WRX and I have the ABS, Traction, and Hill assist light on my dash.
I know there are multiple threads on this and I’ll write below what I’ve done myself to try and fix it.

- Replaced brake light switch, it’s currently adjusted so the brake is the most sensitive. Could it be a faulty new switch?
- Scanned ABS code, module is not returning anything (not from the dealer)
- Reset ABS module, left battery disconnected etc. issue persisting.

What else could it be that’s causing this?
The car does have prior front end damage, steering wheel airbag was replaced, these lights came on after this.

Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Was anything else replaced, such as impact sensors, air bag control module, etc.

And for the love of god, did you pull codes or just load up the parts cannon and start shooting?

Clockspring was replaced, air bag control module was reset, seat belt pretensioner replaced.

I didn’t pull codes, VDC from a snap on scanner (not a dealer scanner) wasn’t returning anything.

Got my Carnac The Magnificent turban and cape on and I am waving the envelope above my forehead....

"C1711 and/or U0126 and/or U0428"

Based on what you said has been done and the lights you have I'm gonna tell you it is the Steering Angle Sensor that mounts on the clock spring.

A. You have spun the SAS when installing it on the new clock spring and its way out of range.
B. The SAS needs to be rezeroed.
C. The SAS is failed.
D. Your didn't transfer the SAS and threw it away with the original clock spring.

Regardless of which issue you have the SAS will need to be rezeroed when you fix/replace. And yes, you will need a scan tool comparable to Subaru SMIII or SM4 to read those codes and calibrate the SAS.

And then I could be completely wrong...

What he said sounds about right.

Then again, I wasn't aware that srs control modules could be reset.

Yeah that bugs me too, but he didn't list the AirBag light as being on hence the SAS diag.
On that year if ANY air bag is fired you replace the module.

Thanks for the input guys. The Airbag light was on but after the bag was replaced the light went away. I forgot to mention, the clockspring was also replaced(old one burned out). I ensured that the clockspring was centered when putting the new one in. I guess my next step will be to take a look at the SAS/clockspring again.
Any other thoughts if the clockspring is centered? I did not have it re-calibrated.

-EDIT- After posting I realized I forgot to ask you this: When you replaced the clockspring did you take the old SAS off the back of the old clock spring and install it on the back of the new clockspring?

I don't think anything. What I know: The first thing you must do is use a scanner that will read VDC codes/data to verify if the SAS is your issue.
Then read SAS data to see if the SAS is working and how far off it is. It will not zero if it reads greater than 10 degrees whith wheels steered straight ahead (usually something near plus/minus 180, 360, 540, 720...) Values that great/small mean you have the SAS physically out of sync with the clock spring and/or the clock spring improperly installed. Once close you will need to perform the centering calibration. You can also zero your yaw and G sensor to make sure everything is up to snuff.
