I was more worried about them getting jammed in the flywheel or pressure plate and lodging against the wall. I tied dental floss with a hemostat around the bolts so they dont drop. so far four are out.

Or did you use the bolts to draw the 2 pieces together? PS I call dibbs on the ebcs text me me at 301-974-2576 and let me know man.

Sorry. I was so excited it came off I ran out to get parts. Not sure how I magnates to mess it up. I won't be making that mistake again. Got most of te old clutch off. Have toget the center splined part off still. I have a gear puller on it now. I ran out to Subaru to get a new clutch disc. Got a pressure plate and tob too just in case. Should have checked the bearin on the flywheel since I had a ride tonight. So far it looks like I'll be victorious. I'll keep it updated. No help needed yet. I appreciate it. Don't go too far though.

Man, that splined center part is really on there. I decided (after almost ruining a gear puller) I would cut it in quarters and pop it off. we'll see how that goes tomorrow. At this point im just psyched that i can continue and hopefully finish it up fairly quickly.

Forgot to mention, I replaced my clutch because I tow a lot, have elevated power levels, and high mileage. I thought I was getting slippage, but looking at the disc, it looked almost brand new. The fingers on the pressure plate had some wear and one of the clutch disc springs was loose and rattling around. I decided to do as much as I could at once, including replacing rear leaking traverse link bushing, group-n engine mounts, weld crack in exhaust, fix blown out exhaust gasket, change tranny fluid, and spark plugs. Everything except for this stupid clutch went well. I put it back together 4 times so far and probably messed the alignment up. At least the subaru parts guy had some mercy on my situation and gave me a discount on part i was replacing.

By the way, my car is a 07 WRX with an 18g EWG and has 176000 miles on it.

My sti has a hair under 150k on it. I've got a comp clutch sitting on the shelf in my garage waiting to go in. Its been slipping a bit for a while now and my stock turbo finally blew out on me the other night thank god. 20G on the way! Do you have a long commute? I do about 100-120 daily depending on where work sends me. My wife does 150/day. Her 2012 civic hybrid just passed its 1 year anniversary and has 40k on it.

PS do you have a welder? I noticed you welded up an exhaust crack. I finally decided to cut off the bottle neck on my SPT exhaust and need to weld it back up. I have my brother in laws MIG, but no gas. I cant stand welding with shielded wire either it just doesnt work as well.

Thats the way I upgrade now. If it breaks, i put in something bigger and better. I travel about 700miles a week. I think its been averaging 30-40k a year since I got the car in sept of 07. Sounds like you guys drive like me. I dont even bother with car warrenties because i hit the mileage cap so quickly.

I do. I have the Lincoln electric weld pak 140HD. I have two tanks of gas; Tri-mix for SS and co/ar for regular steel and a bunch of different wires. If you need to weld something up you are welcome to come over at some point. PM me if you want to set something up.

As for cutting off the clutch, you should be able to get away with a single cut and then wedging in that cut (chisel or pry bar) to spread it. That should release the tension from the input shaft and all you to walk it off.

I've somehow, in ALL of my car playing never smushed the splines. I'm looking at Dave and Jake on this one

Ok, I can guess Jake's was probably trying to go for a new clutch install record of a 28 minutes something.

Me neither. In all of my (little) subaru experience, I have never screwed the splines. But how he was describing it fit the situation.
