I stopped by NF today to drop off my long block and had a chance to talk to nuke. It should be interesting to see how you like stage 1

Yeah, Stage 1 should be good. It didn't take me long to realize that I wanted something other than the stock exhaust....

Yes, I do, as do many others. A multi weight oil like 5W-30 or 5W-40 will have a 5W viscosity when cold, and a 30/40 weight when warm. So the cold weather operation shouldn't be any different with a 5W-40, it just ends up a little thicker once warmed up.

Thoughts on the Cobb exhaust? I'm stuck between this or the Greddy.

The COBB isn't actually on yet. It will probably be a little while before I'm able to report on how I like it, but I'll be sure to update once I've gotten a few miles on it.

Overall the build quality looks very nice. It has a center entrance, Y-pipe muffler setup, which I think is a bit better for flow than the side entry of the GReddy. It's also shorter piping and less bends. The downside is slightly reduced ground clearance, but the COBB does a good job of this (especially compared to the SPT and Q300 that use a similar style center entry). Plus the COBB is actually 3" piping unlike the 2.75" piping on the GReddy. They both have the neck down for the stock dowpipe gasket. I don't think it makes a big difference though.

I can't comment on sound, but the looks of the two are vastly different. The GReddy has quad, 4", flared, double wall tips. The COBB has quad, 3.5" straight cut tips. They both have staggered tip lengths. The GReddy never really seemed to sit properly in the bumper cutouts. It always seemed to be a little off to the side and sticking out a hair more on one side. You can see this on just about all the GReddy photos people have posted. It's minimal, but it's something you can see if you're looking. I am hoping the COBB won't have this, or at least it won't be as noticeable with the smaller tips. I used to hate the straight cut tips, but they've grown on me lately. I still think I like the fancy ones better, but the straight cut ones look aggressive IMO. Here are some more photos:

It has a resonator, but I haven't seen that on any of the other 08+ STI COBB exhausts. Any ideas?

Looks like whoever has it before you could have had a resonator welded in? It does look a lot smaller than most other resonators on other exhausts, and the welds just before and after the resonator itself doesn't seem to make sense. I think someone just had a resonator added afterwards?

I have the Cobb CBE too! It's a pretty nice exhaust. Not too loud, not too quiet. Fitment,as with most other QuadTips, is a pain in the ass since you have to wiggle it into alignment. I was surprised it had a resonator as well. All the pictures I've seen of it had no resonator, but mine came with one. No biggie, exhaust still sounds good. It has that "should have came with the car" kind of sound.

^ It sounds a lot better in person and under load.

Nice! Good to see someone else with a resonator. I was a little worried mine was fake bit the quality seemed good. It must have a been a revision that they didn't really announce.

That's what I was also thinking, but I don't think that's the case, especially hearing that other people have COBB's with resonators. The polished finish and the quality of welds looks identical to the muffler section. Most off the shelf resonators are not polished (although I'm sure some are). I think the welds before and after are because of the diameter of the resonator requires and adapter. Oh well, however it got in there I hope it sounds good. I don't mind a quieter exhaust.

My friends has the full Cobb exhaust with catted dp on his 2011 hatch and it sounds really good but it's not that loud. My catless turboxs is much louder if that helps any

My car was already one of their built cars, I just wasn't giving them enough credit! Plus they're expanding with a full shop, more builds, etc, so I'm trying to help get them visibility. Expect to see the NF stamp on just about everything now.
