Thats a great looking project!!
I would love to see some shots of your cars. I love looking at other designs and trying to figure out the through process behind the design. I have seen some really solid setups, and I like when people think out of the box. There are a few professional buggy builders that are fcking retards. They set up the suspension the exact way you shouldn't, and their cars handle like ****.

Here is just about the most informative basic Suspension article I have ever read. Its adapted from other types of racing, and writen by a buggy builder, so he really helps you understand how sand cars are different and how they are the same as other types of racing. I would really like to find some info on Rally suspension design geometry. Those cars handle better than just about anything else that touches the dirt.

Everyone else, I really appreciate the support. Hopefully I can get the car up and running before Late August which is my goal. There is SOOOO Much work still left to be done, but I think I can do it. Monster garage guys only have 6 days, and they do more wierder ****.

I would like to see a subaru with a good bit of power on forester struts and paddle tires tearing it up at the dunes, or possibly even a-armed and running lengthend axles.

ok you guys, I have really been thinking alot lately about installing a WRX motor. If I did, I would install a WRX motor and 5 speed trans from one of the cars that had FWD, or maybe even a normal 5mt if I could lock the diff and run all the power through the front. I would tune it to probably the equivelant of a vf39 on 20 psi or something like that. Mount a FMIC up inside the spoiler, really really short IC piping, and just do a simple standalone setup, like a megasquirt or something like that. I bet I could tune it to 400hp with my eyes closed, and I think it would weigh about 1300 lbs. That would have the same power to weight ratio as the big valley car!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahahahah. Okay, I am going to the insurance auction, and looking for a WRX that has been rolled, and the motor hasn't been whacked. **** this sportbike motor. I want 400hp and 400 ft lbs of torque! By the way, there are a few pics I snapped tonight, you can finally see the overall structure. They are being uploaded right now.

Here they are. I don't think I have posted any pics of the rear portion of it. These will kinda show you guys the lines of the car. I really have kinda thought about totally revamping the rear section of the car, but I am justn not wanting to. SO, ill have to make due.

enjoy

I have seen some buggies at Crawford's shop. I was told by Quirt that they use modified VW minibus tranny.

This is awesome, didn't even see this before. Sucks I have dial up right now or I could see all the pics. This will be sweet when its done.

Nice work, I'd love to use a subaru drivetrain in a kit car, this is inspiring.

What are you going off of for your frame design?

Yeah, I don't want to make my car rear engine, I want it mid. I made an executive decision today that I am going to get this car running with the engine that I have . the 750 will be really fast. It will be faster than most cars on the road, and Im sure be able to keep up with most of the cars at the dunes.

I got the diff put in the car tonight, and the engine is sitting inside the frame. I will be running the engine mounts maybe tomorrow night, and at that point the only thing keeping me from starting it, will be just getting the wiring all plugged in. Not too much customizing needed from what people say. I have a few pics Ill post in a bit.

I also started on a 2 stroke powered shifter kart the other night. Me and My friends are all building our own to terrorize the streets. Ill post pics once its at a point where you can tell what it looks like.

As far as frame design, I draw alot, so I just basically drew down the frame that I have to work from, (you can see that pic on the #1 post.) And since I dont like that design at all, I modified it as much as I could and still kept the frame at a minimum weight. I am thinking once all is said and done, the car will weigh 1000-1100 lbs. I used ideas from baja, rally and alittle bit of common sense. On the side, where the windows triangulate and I have a 6 point triangulation, I got that idea from the subaru rally car.

Alright, I've got some new pics of work I did tonight. The thing that I did tonight, for some reason I have been thinking was going to be SO hard. It was wierd, I totally mentally set my self up thinking that mounting the engine would be totally hard. But, it wasn't. The coolest thing about building this car, is that I started not knowing really too much about fabbing something like this. And now I know so much comparatively. I bend and notch, and weld stuff SO much faster than before. Anyways, here are the pics.

This is a long post...

Tonight I got the engine mounted. Just on the upper 3 mounts, but it is totally supported on its own mounts.

I wanted to be able to run the tubes into the intersection of tubing that was already there, for added strength so I did alittle bit ot bending.

5 tubes terminating all at the same intersection. Thats good right?

I was supprized at how much room I ended up with. I thought it was going to be tight, but its really not at all. Not only is my head totally clear of all obstructions, but I have tons of room for pedals, and the steering wheel too.

Plenty of room for the gas tank, turbo system, intercooler, and other things i want to put back there.

The engine is reasonably mounted, about .5 inches above the lowest point of the car, which keeps ground clearance low too.

For all of you who are interested in the subaru rear end, notice that the whole unit is 6.5 inches wide, and the center points of the outputs are 4.25 inches above the ground. That makes for nice CV angles.

I think thats all for today kids.

Utah. Ill be going to various cali dunes, due to friend living out there, and then mostly here in Utah. I want to make this bitch street legal and drive it to work. I imagine it will get good milage too. My original goal was to have it running by July 4th, so I could get a few shake down passes in before August. My father is leaving for iraq late august, so I wanted to go with him. Looks like that isn't going to happen, but who knows.

Thanks man. I am getting much better every time I go out there and work on it, but honestly, I am SUCH a beginner. I did manage to get the rest of the engine mounts squared away. Ill post a few pics just to show what I did. I incorporated the adjustable mounts off of the bike, so that I can adjust the angle at which the engine sits in the car. It was alittle bit of work, but I was able to get it to work. Next is rear suspension I think. Not sure. I am however running almost on track. The only problem is fundage.

Here are a few pics.

Ill give you guys an update later, because I don't have time now, but just for your information, I just purchased a wrecked 2002 WRX with manual trans. I am parting the whole car out, and using the engine/trans/wiring/ecu for my next sandrail. Goals are <1500lbs and atleast 400hp 400ft lbs at the crank, as well as 20 inches of travel all around.
