Long travel brakes
good day -
Since I did the brakes on my 91 Loyale FWD they work well BUT you seem to have to travel awful far through the master cylinder stroke before you begin to slow down. The pedal doesn't "sink" if you hold it - and you don't need to double or tripple pump to stop (been there before in another car) so I don't suspect the master cylinder. What I do suspect is the self adjusters on the front calipers (as I had to rotate them all the way in to fit the new pads) - is there some secret procedure to "re-setting" the e-brake? I think the two are connected because I need to pull the ebrake handle WAY up to clamp the front wheels - which leads me to believe that the adjusters haven't done their thing. In older Saabs (also front hand brake) you'd pull the ebrake handle up a couple clicks and then stomp the brake pedal 10 - 15 times to adjust everything - I tried a couple stomps but wanted to check before my size 13EE broke something - am I on the right path or do ya'all suspect something else? Cheers Steve

sounds like you are just low on brake fluid. either that or you have air in the lines
i reccomend bleeding the lines and putting in fresh fluid. |

The subie, however, is really a blast to drive (even if it does have an automatic) - fresh tires, fresh shocks, fresh strut bearings, new exhaust system, fresh ball joints, fresh axles/cv joints, fresh tie-rod ends, fresh belts, fresh plugs, wires, cap, rotor, clarion head unit with a CD player - kinda "busy" in the engine compartment at 75+ MPH - but a heck of a lot more fun to drive on the road than my Cherokee (in fact I think the jeep might be getting a bit jealous, since gas passed 3 bucks a gallon it hasn't been going out quite as often). Gonna be bummed when my daughter is on her holiday break from college - she's gonna want to drive "her" car! Thanks again Steve |
