Default Metallic sounds that oscillates

Hey all I'm looking for a little bit of help with a diagnostic. My car seems to be making a high pitch oscillating metallic sound that seems to come and go and does not seem to be affected on whether I press on my breaks or not. The only way I can make the sound go away when it is occurring is to put my car through a turn. When my car is moving and turning/cornering the sound goes away, but once my wheel returns to center it will come back again. Shortly after the sound occurs for a few minutes it completely goes away and will eventually return again. Any ideas? Cheers!

It could be a wheel bearing

Would a bearing issue come and go? Also would turning affect it?

You can check it yourself by jacking up the car and grabbing the top and bottom of the wheel and checking for play. When a bearing is bad enough to make some good noise it will be a pretty good amount.

Thanks Canadian. This issue only seems to show up about 10% of the time when I'm driving. It seems to only show up after I have been driving the car on long distance trips. Never on short runs in the city. Does it still sounds like a wheel bearing issue? Another person that I know suggested a cv. I'm not technical enough to be able to diagnose it on my own And was hoping to avoid some of the costs associated with diagnosing it at Subaru.

Could still be. Weight transfer of steering making it go on and off really sounds like a wheel bearing. Especially if it's not related to engine RPM.

Takes a few minutes to check them.

If it was a CV joint it would make more of a clicking sound which would be very apparent at full lock on the steering.

Yeah it does NOT have to be loose to be bad. only the worse will show that much free play. Long trips give your wheel bearing enough time to heat up and start acting a fool. My front passenger makes a hum but only after an hour + drive. I've fixed it before... and will have to fix it again

Thanks for the help. If its just starting up now 10% of the time - should I replace immediately or can it wait?
