Default Silverline Automotive - Portland, OR - Trust worthy?

Hey there guys, I'm currently in the market for an 04/05 STi and I've had a couple people mention Silverline Auto in Portland, OR. I checked out the guy's website and surely the STi's on there seem to good to be true. Yes, I do know that most of the cars he deals with are salvage/reconstructed vehicles, but a friend of mine noted that Silverline makes sure they are in tip top condition. From the looks of their website, it seems they have a lot of happy customers. I checked their reviews and there's really a 50/50 majority. Either, really happy and satisfied or claim they got complete junk and say Silverline is a scam and are out to get you. I really would like to talk to some people who have dealt with Silverline Auto personally. Please post your experience.

Thanks.

Reviews quoted below scare me:

"DONT BUY FROM THEM!!!! PERIOD! I bought an 09 Legacy 2.5 GT from them about 6 months ago on what I thought was a screamin good deal. Turned out to be way too good to be true. I was told the car had light front end damage and they only had to replace the bumper and headlight to get it back into shape. Well, 6 months later after spending over 3K on multiple repairs to the turbo and moving the timing belt back into place (it was 2 notches off) I've got the car on blocks again. This time, to replace the ENTIRE ENGINE! I spun a bearing and the pistons are hitting the valves and there is no other option but to get a brand new engine. Silverline is a HUGE SCAM and is literally the bane of my existence. In 6 months I'm looking to have spent over $10000.00 in repairs. Please take my word and go pay full price from someone who won't lie to you about their cars."

"DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE. My girlfriend purchased a car from these bottom feeders a year ago and it has had one problem after another. The dealer said it only had some rear end damage but when we took it to a licenced mechanic he said he could tell the whole side had been replaced. Liers and Scam Artists, that's what you find here. "

"I bought a clean titled subaru from Silverline, and when I was purchasing it I made sure to get a carfax as well as ask the salesman about the history of the vehicle. Wrecks, owners, any known problems etc. He said it was in great shape, and that it had NEVER been in an accident and also that it had the factory warranty still on it. 3 days after I bought it the check engine light came on. I called up the salesman and asked him if I could bring it by and have them check it out. He told me that since I signed an as-is contract, that the wouldn't even take a look at it in their service department. Then after about 6 weeks the car started leaking oil. So I took it to an authorized subaru dealer to get it looked at. They told me that it had obviously been in an accident and the warranty was voided because of that. After some research, I found that the auction silverline purchased the vehicle from reported it as having significant front end damage as well as frame damage. Therefore, they should have known and passed that info along to me. Basically they lied about the accident. Shady business practices for sure. I would not recommend silverline to anyone."

"If you're looking for all the price gouging of a dealership but without any form of quality, cleanliness or warranty/guarantee this is the Place to go. Universally despised in the Portland area silverline automotive combines all the peace Of mind one usually achieves in a game of Russian roulette, with the Slavic chop shop atmosphere of a place where you might play Russian roulette. Went there to buy a part receives a bait and switch immediately refused to do business with them. Ask around, everyone in the northwest will tell you these guys are garbage. Do yourself a favor head to performance race engineering in Gresham. It's everything you're looking for in quality and budget, without a bunch of ragged (likely stolen) craigslist franken parts mixed in. If you do business here you'll be sorry. Check out "sti guy"s reviews, obviously a shill posting 3 "good" reviews in suspicious spam email English. Looks like they outsourced their propaganda to nigerian scam artists. Beware these guys, they're bad news."

I'm looking to get into a new WRX as well and see these guys pop up all the time. Sorry, I haven't dealt with them personally, but...

I've searched around on this one before as well, give it a try and you'll find plenty of info. Sounds like buying a reconstructed title is pretty hit or miss, you'll have to decide if that's a bet your willing to take. On the other hand sounds like they are pretty well known in the parts side of things.

Found from searching:

I bought my car from them with no problems. They were honest and didnt pressure me into anything. I even got a 160 dollar check from them when they sent me the license plates. They said that they had some extras laying around and were able to use those to save me some cash. They also sell parts to their customers at cost as well as giving them huge discounts on labor.

I just followed a link from Craigslist to an ad on their site, and my antivirus blocked a trojan and a tracking attempt... Classy.

Im thinking about buying a car from them this weekend. They say they have no room to haggle on price because they are a wholesaler. Has anyone bought a car from them that got a better price than whats posted on the website?

Thanks.

I did a lot of research on both Silverline Automotive and NW Group. they are two very different dealerships. not affiliated in any way

hope that helps

Bought a sti from silverline about a year ago. No problems AT ALL 15k later. They were cool and have me $1500 off te Internet price.
I've heard the horror stories from every single person I've talked to, but personally for me it was a good buy.

Not defending them by any means but make sure you pick a good one. Rallitek is pretty close and they do a good pre purchase inspection, and give you a printout of anything that needs to be fixed so you can haggle

I bought an 04 STi from them about 2 year ago. Motor blew after 3 days. But they were cool and rebuilt the motor for free. The only weird part was when i got my car back i no longer had the STi decals on the doors....

Oh crap! I just bought an '05 WRX STi with 82,700 miles from these guys last week! Reconstructed title with "minor front end damage" that had been "expertly repaired." I found moisture in the left tail light. When I removed the light assembly, I noticed that there's bent metal around a joint in the trunk. Other than that, the car SEEMS to drive fine.

I think it's hit or miss with them, I would be Leary of buying a car from them. They are pretty much a glorified chop shop that pieces cars back together and sells them. It might seem like a good deal, I would spend the extra cash and buy from a more reputable place. Just my .02 cents.

I wont be going back, save to choke out the salesman. Bought a Bugeye sedan with 95,000 and a new short block in it from them. Two months later I've got a spun bearing, and some serious rod knock, valve noise.

So now I'm looking at a rebuild on my six month old car. Awesome. And go ahead and toss 4k+ on top of that because the tranny is trash.

If they did ANY engine work to a car you're looking at do not purchase it. Total crap. Held up fine on the way home, got back to Washington and everything started going downhill.

I am thinking about having them do a head replacement and possibly engine rebuild. I saw your post was fairly recent. Did Silverline warranty any of their work?

Bought my 06 wrx wagon from them. Had 92k on it at the time. Paid 12k. The same price they advertised online. Almost two years later I haven't had any serious problems. Only things were the radiator gave out like a week ago and the o-ring on the exterior inlet side of the ps pump finally took a crap. Replaced and bled the system and works like a charm. They were easy to deal with. Regardless, I probably won't go back. My beef is they claim to do full services on all their cars when it's apparent they don't. When I changed the oil after I first got it it looked terrible... Changed the rear diff fluid about a month ago and it also looked like hell. No chunks though thank goodness. It really is hit and miss with those guys.

I bought a 2011 Sti from them last summer with a rebuilt title, only had 16,000 miles, everything seemed to be fine for a couple months until I got a check engine light, ended up being the oil control valve, I know the the car didn't come with a warranty so I bought a new ocv from the dealer. That was at about 20,000 miles. Then the big one, 4 months later and at 25,000 miles the engine spun a rod bearing. Silver line gave me a offer to trade it for a freshly rebuilt engine and to pay few thousand on top but I didn't take it with the scare that it might happen again. Now I am into it over $7,000 in repairs with the new engine, and it is now costing me more than a clean title Sti would, lesson learned.

Bought an 04 sti a year ago. The only problem i encountered was that it had cut springs. But i was going to buy coilovers anyways so it doesn't matter to me haha. Clean title with very low mileage for a killer price. The car has not gave me a single problem yet! I think its just a hit or miss with them

I purchased a 2006 STI from Silverline Automotive over 3 months ago. From the moment I arrived back with the vehicle my roommate noticed a few things. The front tires were on backwards, there was a small oil leak and the center differential was bad. I didn’t catch this at the dealership so that’s my fault for trusting people. They provide you with an in-house inspection sheet which says the car is in tip-top shape but of course this is a complete lie. I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes, I got ripped of big time. 3 days after getting the Subaru I went out of town for a few months so I never got the time to run over everything with him. I owed Leo $500 for some miscellaneous fee but after I informed my dad who chipped in on the down payment he stopped all payments from getting authorized by Silverline Automotive. When I returned from Spain we went over the vehicle in great detail and noticed 2 more issues. There was a fuel leak and the check engine light came on with a p0171 code. So that’s 5 issues on a car purchased 3 months ago. After doing some of my own digging I noticed countless complaints from people on the web being cheated out of money by this dealership. Leo told me to switch the DCCD knob to the lowest setting for a center diff fix but this is STUPID, the center diff is still in need of replacement. We left 2 messages with the “service department” at Silverline Automotive and of course no follow up. They had all the time in the world to harass us about $500 but disappear when the issues started. My father is a successful hotel developer, he refused to pay the $500 solely due to the countless issues the car had. Upon purchase of a car from Silverline they make you write a good review on google, if you’re such a great dealership those reviews would come without asking. I would not suggest them to anyone but if you do see yourself going there take a mechanic.
Side note: Everyone at this dealership is very nice including Leo, I’m not bashing them personally just the way they run business. I honestly think if they truly took care of the cars they sold things won’t be so bad.

Your car is salvage titled, right? That's Silverline's specialty. They're nationally known as the salvage Subaru specialist.

Its a clear title but I have another update. Silverline only had the vehicle for 1 day, it was traded in the day before.
