Default Engine Steam Cleaning?

Interested to know what people think of the relative merits/downsides to engine steam cleaning. I have a WRX wagon that's got about 50k on it and I'd like to clean the engine bay.

#1 Can you damage the car?
#2 How much does it usually cost?
#3 Is it worth it or can you get just as good a cleaning by spraying engine cleaner on and doing it that way?

A can of Gunk Foamy Engine Brite or some Simple Green works great. Just don't go crazy with the water pressure, as water can be forced into some areas it shouldn't enter. Use a brush for stubborn deposits.

I would be cautious of high-pressure steam cleaning.

I'd use steam on the bottom of a 1972 Chevy Van. That's about it.

I use the Simple Green method and have for years. Works great.
