Blouch 18gXT housing size
My stock turbo is on its way out and I'm getting a Blouch 18gXT, DW 750cc, and TurboXS TMIC or FMIC. I know a 7cm housing will have quicker spool but the 8cm has more top end. I want quick spool but how much top end will a 7cm housing lose? I dyno'd 232whp and 245wtq @17psi at Innovative Tuning in October 2010. Im looking to break 300whp and have decent spool. Also, which TXS I/C would you recommend for my goals? Ill probably tell Mike that I dont want to go over 20psi if possible to get 300whp.
I have a stock 2.0 motor with the following: Tomei 4-1 headers w/catless up pipe (all heat wrapped) 3 in catless bellmouth dp (heat wrapped) 3 inch cobb replica (ebay) cbe Gimmick inlet w/samco maf tube Cobb sri tgv deletes Grimmspeed EBCS Walbro 255 Perrin crank pulley

I know an 18g is really pushing the stock tranny, would you recommend an hta68 as a safer choice? Ive been trying to decide between the 18g or hta68 for awhile. I might end up with the hta68 pnp'd, TXS top mount, and DW 750cc's and be done with power mods. Im at 90k, clutch was replaced with another OEM Exedy at 80k, but I still plan on upgrading.

beware wanting too much outa a wrx...there are way too many getting broken by owners who want too much and end up regretting it I had a 16g on my 02 wrx and it was a great turbo.....the evoIII i6g would be my choice, I think...or the hta68..for a dd 2.0 and NEVER 'dump' the clutch |

i've got a 20g 8cm pushing 20lbs of boost, i had to get a new clutch but the tranny is holding fine. just dont beat the crap out of the car and dump the clutch every chance you get. i'm pushing 323 to the wheels. i would personally get the 18g 8cm and go external wastegate.

I know it is possible to have big turbo's on the 5mt, but I cant really risk that. And I dumped the clutch once at 4 or 5k while the car was stock...hardest stall I have ever experienced. It knocked a brake pad loose and was enough to scare me off from doing that ever again. Im going to go with the hta68 since the TD04 is almost enough for me.

The HTA68 or 18 are no worse or better for your tranny. Both can be tuned to tranny destroying torque levels, its up to you to decide when to put that down. I ran an 18G for 2 years on a head/cam hybrid putting 360ft-lbs with about 15 and hard as I can tranny breaking launches without failure. I may have been lucky but people tend to forget that YOU have control of your right foot and when to use it.

I'd still like to know what the 2.0 guys think in regards to either the 18g-xt w/ 7 or 8cm hot side. Is there a noticeable difference between the two in the powerband?

Depends what u use car for, 8cm track the car; 7cm a bit faster spool not much of a difference maybe 10-15 torque difference

Also im right there with ya on the high miles 108,000 Im planning on having it tuned to 17 -18 psi for dd and 20 for weekend use They were thinking id easily be up around 310whp on the high boost, but we will see! Good luck P.S. Anyone know why they told me not to bother with a ewg? Thought that was the thing to do with this turbo on a 8cm?? |

I have no experience with the 7cm, because i got an 8cm ) I get 20psi at 4k and it holds it all the way to redline. I made 315whp and 280wtq on a mustang dyno. My tuner said it would easily keep making power, but i cut it off there. I just placed an order for a v8 ej207 and a 6 speed. We'll see what this turbo can really do!
One more thing. Uncle Scotty is a pecemistic old douch bag who is angry at anyone who can still produce an erection. He continualy post garbage that does not pertain to the topic at hand. |

Tranny life depends on the tq produced. Scotty no one does 16gs anymore and the hta68 is an overrated paper weight. I have tuned 30rs on wrx's with stock transmissions and had zero issues. Treat it with respect and it will respect you back. Throw an hta68 with e85 at a stock trans and it will pop.
The 18gxt will put 330 all day long and more. With great spool even with the 8cm |
