I had a e36 m3 with 126k and never had any issues with it. Did work one it myself and took it to my mechanic for major maintenance. Wasn't that expensive. It cost more for tires and rims than any mechanical parts.

from what i've heard the e36s are more reliable and cheaper to maintain than e46s

Well my most recent bad experience was for an alignment lol. So I'm going to be doing my own alignments now too

So, rough idle, jumping RPMs at ~2k (constant throttle), solid CEL w/flashing cruise and TC off- code was all four cylinders were misfiring (just lovely). They think it was bad gas, so I need to run it down to near completely empty then refill with better Shell or Chevron gas (might even go E0) and see what that does. I am hoping it was bad gas and not something worse.

that's sort of my problem. datalog your TGV angles. Although after a tank of vpower it seems better and I start questioning the TGV theory..lol. I think I'll just delete them and go from there
my highway mpg was terrible too, I got 22.4 on a 250 mile trip although I was hauling an engine and tranny, going 80 a lot of the way, it was 95-100 degrees and I'm using 0w40 now.

what about additives? I am going to run down the tank before a road trip, but I would rather not push the issue with the engine...although I seem to recall that they need to be added to an empty tank, not a tank 3/4 full

i tried techron, didn't seem to help. You are supposed to pour it in a near empty tank and then fill the tank.

idk it sure sounds similar to my issue

I see. Maybe Ill run it down as far as I can, then fill up with either shell or 0 ethanol and maybe give some cleaner a shot

Does torque pro allow for logging? Any other options? I don't have a tactrix or AP, so my options are limited to apps for now.

Since they reset everything its been running better but not like it used to, not my a long shot. Assuming bad fuel, I should stay out of boost/wot correct?

Sure is making the forester xt and brz look attractive.

I think torque can log but I don't know how. I guess avoid boost if you have no idea what's wrong

Not finding anything about tgvs in torque pro, but it does have a load of info. Pretty sweet having whatever gauges you want for $20 including bluetooth adapter.

Still having issues. I think the best plan would be to run the tank down asap and especially before a road trip, then dump in a bottle of techron and fill up with 0% ethanol. Logically that should compensate well for the apparently high ethanol I have now. Just a little less than 3/4 tank left lol. Its weird going from trying to be efficient to wanting to blast through gas (aka $$$).

I did, and was told to run down the tank then fill up with better gas, and to avoid places like Safeway, Fred Meyer, and Costco, as apparently they take the leftovers from other stations and don't have the additives Shell and Chevron offer.

I'm just hoping that I am not going to do some serious damage that will conveniently show up after the warranty is done, let alone put my car out of commission for a while.

my car seemed a little better after a tank of shell but I think its still just the TGVs...im not too worried about it though, I think the only thing these misfires would actually hurt are the cats which I don't have lol

Well Ill do what he said, run it down and fill with good fuel (pretty sure Ill do E0 and techron) then see how it goes. If it is still bad after that Ill take it back in.

is it misfiring while you are moving or just at idle?

I think both, but definitely at idle. I did the exhaust thing posted earlier and can feel it, if that is legit. It seems to coincide with the rough idle.

Still runs crappy while moving.

mine feels a little weird when cruising sometimes but when you get on it, it seems fine. Also the MPG seems fine and I still have very little oil consumption so far. I don't think I will burn more oil with M1 0w40 since its thicker than 5w30 except at extremely cold temps but I'm still keeping an eye on it since its mobil 1.

Dealer down the road just got an 08 R32, maybe i'll trade it in for that lol

My car does the same thing!!!! It feels like misfiring and especially when I hit the gas it feels like a sputter!!! I've only been putting shell or chevron 91 with octane booster additive every other gas tank, but I think after running fuel from other gas stations and learning my lesson maybe my fuel pump/filter is going out? Because the problem still randomly continues, no check engine lights or codes?

Octane booster is useless, I've never seen any evidence that it does anything. I'd say use your money on two more gallons of good gas instead

Most are crap, but there are apparently legit options like Torco.

Most raise the octane rating a few points meaning you'd go from 91 to 91.2.

I have heard this about torco as well. I believe it was recommended to me from someone at cobb as a matter of fact. I think most boosters are crap though.

Getting "Not OK" on torque for o2 bank 4 sensor 4...I don't get it. no other issues I can see. I wish it would read oil temp though.

Got my 20 ounce techron bottle and only 50% of the tank to go. I figure I will pour all but a little in when I fill up with zero ethanol, then save the remainder for the next fill up which would come up pretty quick after the 200 mile trip.

Idle is still rough but better than it was. The way I understand it, it's inevitable that the issues will return as long as I have the bad fuel. Hopefully I can burn through it before the rev bouncing returns... I'll probably make a YouTube account and load the videos.
