Default '98 Coupe Wide Body Photo Journal - Exterior

Hey Nasioc,

I don't plan on doing a full build thread with loads of boring specs, but here is a little photo history of my '98 RS.

Hope you enjoy!

Body kit pre fitment work complete, running and driving mock up before sending it off to body shop.

Color samples.

At this stage I sent the car out to a body shop that specializes in custom vehicles and has extensive experience with both custom fab a fiberglass.

Some first steps, closing in the rear quarters (inner wheel housings).

They did beautiful fab work on these, note that the flange on the outside is scribed to the inner quarter panel creating another bonding surface for the quarters, not an easy task.

Unfortunately missing shots of rear quarters being bonded. These are post bond seam seal photos in the cabin and wheel wells.

More details.

Lots of blending work here and the tail lights were also pulled out flush to the body.

Fitting rear wing to decklid.

Body work on roof panel. Note that a carbon roof was purchased but never received, luckily got one of the last three roof panels left at the time. There are no more new OEM roof panels available for these cars.

Antenna delete.

Moving forward and frontward, gapping and flushing of things.
Fenders needed a bunch of glass added on the back side so they could be sanded flush to flow with A-Pillars where they meet.

Wheel arches up front had to be trimmed for wheel fitment (18x10 +24). The following photos document the process of making new lips after cutting back the arches.

new lips made from molds

Pre fit

Bonded

Glassed then dura-glassed

Sanded

Fit to vehicle and body work

Went and visited her today...

Got some adjusting to do on the ol' Stromung when I do the final assembly, in like another year lol. And of course will be grabbing a set of JDM tails.

Can't say enough good things about the body shop and their work.

Front Inners

1/4 tubs, front inners, call them what you will. Firewall cleanup still to come. Note that car was sent out and remains as a full functioning and full weighted mock-up with the largest wheel/tire combo I will run and ride height set to facilitate proper clearances for fab work and modifications to the body kit. Eventually it will get stripped back down, firewall patched, engine bay and accessories painted, etc.
Car is now headed back to body shop side of the building where the rockers will get installed and body worked which is all that's left before paint. After lots of debating I've decided to cut the rockers at the forward door line to keep the fenders removable.

Cheers,
UM

Your photos would present better, and possibly even avoid upload errors, if you'd hit the Enter key twice between image links.

You're doing a great job on the car. Gotta love a '98!

Thanks for the tip and done. The upload problem is with the image hosting site, might try a different one.

Thank you.

Hmmm... that's odd. Over the last couple of years since its inception, the NASIOC image host has handled absolutely everything I've thrown at it.

Is there something different about the images of yours that won't upload?

Nice work, looks really good!
I've had a ton of issues with the NASIOC image hosting site as well recently with nothing that I can pin down - all JPGs under the size limit.

Hope you get a chance soon as finding them in decent condition is getting tough and nearly every interior and exterior trim part is discontinued and no longer available. I purchased every replacement exterior trim piece possible over a year ago, which wasn't everything, and some of those are no longer available today.

Lightbulb Why are there upload errors?

I asked umscooby to email me some images of his that wouldn't upload, so that maybe I could discover something about them that was causing upload issues/errors.

I received three images, and the first thing I noticed was that every image had a different extension... jpeg, jpg and JPG. What this told me was that different methods of acquisition and/or editing/saving were occurring.

This was confirmed when I checked the metadata for each image. One image had no metadata, and the other two had metadata which indicated that two different iPhones had been used to take the photos (6S and SE), and different software (Windows Photo Editor and unknown 13.7) was used to save the images.

All three of these images uploaded no problem to the NASIOC image host after they were imported into my photo editor (IrfanView) and simply re-saved with no further modification.

I suspect there's something funky with the compression scheme being utilized by certain types of photo conversion/editing apps. This may or may not be a problem specific to iPhones (and the way the images are formatted/saved).

It appears the simplest solution to the upload issue here is to find a photo conversion/editing app that doesn't trigger an upload error, and then stick to using that particular program.
