Do GTI drivers obsess over changing their oil every 2000 miles and send samples constantly to blackstone because they live in terror of their engine randomly suffering a catastrophic failure?

For having such a Subaroner, I don’t get the “straight 6” name since inline engines aren’t powered by LOVE.

Unfortunately they are too busy worrying about the CEL, low coolant, thermostat failures, and warranty denials . You know what is comical, they didn't even bother updating the thermostat and the water pump for the MK8, they just said screw it and cut the warranty period. ALL resources went into the ID, so they phoned in the MK8.

My straight six was powered by German engineering so a few failed fuel pumps and turbos. Wasn't powered by LOVE, that is for sure so I agree with you there.

very well said...i completely agree. some of the most expensive cars in the world have some hideous aero on the body, its function over form. In a wind tunnel those vents in the front fender black trim showed something beneficial, but probably cutting them into metal fenders would not have been practical from manufacturing, the black molding provided a workable alternative, added bonus of not having to deal with paint chips rust or dents as. they would also be functionally protective.

I think the black molding on the fenders fits the theme they are shooting for, and the performance of the engine and drivetrain with the new chassis and suspension improvements are going to make for a very good if not great driving experience.

The shock of the new design is wearing off, people are warming up to it, and the overreaction, and fun of satire are becoming tongue in cheek.

the funny thing is we still have not seen the STI. it may end up having the clean body with no cladding since it is to be more of the track toy. with no cvt to hold back the engine, we all await the results of the sti, and we prepare for the mods that the new sti tuned FA24DIT can accept. also will the US get a new RA model or maybe even an S210

They are OK. Not that fun in comparison to the WRX. You can't turn off the nannies all the way, the car will never let you forget it is FWD. It is a MQB chassis, fantastic for daily driving but falls apart at the limit. The MK8 just has terrible proportions, they made it look like a mini van even more. Not much of an upgrade from the MK7, same chassis, minimal power gain with 5 PSI extra boost. They phoned it in as all resources well relocated to EV ID going forward. Expect a hefty price increase for the US market too. Although they had to discount the MK7 5-6K to sell them here.

Here's the part that no one seems to be talking about. The WRX this generation is kind of whatever. I'm sure it'll be serviceable, but eh, so is what I drive already. Here's to the undiscovered country, may it be as exciting as we all hope.

That's what I been saying. We don't even know what the STI will be. It could be amazing with real life paint even...or at least somewhere. Also, what about that wing. Just the shivers grabs hold every time that wing.

I'm not much of a fan of the MK8. I do like that VW sponsored that BBS homage build tho.

I'm a fan of everything about the MK8, except the lack of knobs and switches. Which seems to me "knobs and switches" is the new "no manual no care".

interesting info, I rarely see any v.w hatches around this area, I can't remember the last time I saw one. I got z ride in a brand new golf back in 2007...it felt solid but my STI would have decimated that hatch in acceleration

Loved this car. Wish I coulda afforded it at the time. Dealer wouldn't budge from $32k. Look...painted!

But I ended up in an MK5 GTI instead. It took a cheap tune, exhaust, and tires to hang with that STI, but for something like 10k less out of pocket it was so worth it.

Good times. Miss those KKUC meets.

Another ride along:

https://www.autoblog.com/2021/09/10/...-photos-specs/

"The engine did pull hard and felt like it was not the least bit peaky, and both the new ultra-suede seats in the Limited (replacing leather) and the Recaros in the GT kept a firm enough grip. There was no need to seek out a grab handle as Speed hurtled headlong through the corners. The SPT shifts in the GT did indeed feel as seamless as a good DCT, and the car gobbled up the apex curbs equally well whether we were in a GT equipped with adaptive dampers or the Limited with its fixed-valve dampers."

My word, it just looks uglier every time I see it......

And I test drove the cvt before buying the manual for my 15. It was awful.

And no adaptive dampers and Recaros for the manual which is the biggest seller? I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when they discussed that logic, and when the designers and bosses agreed on having more cladding than the outback.....

Underwhelmed as is subaru recent fashion, but hopin' and a prayin' she'll fit the bill.

I got the Alfa goddess sittin' in the garrage keepin' clean n dry. Surely glad I didn't wait years for this Ash Barty Farty and I got myself a Raducanu if ya know what I'm sayin'. These damn wrx never easy on the eyes.

Now havin' that said I do have a history of ownin' one of these cars, and she fits a certain bill. I do like to beat on a car and keep her outside, all conditions, no kind treatment. "Hard-use" as they say. I beat on my previous wrx, she kept takin it no problem. The Alfa goddess can look pretty in the garage, while the wrx does dog duty, ankle-biter duty, mud duty, dirt, you name it. She isn't real pretty, but I feel like she'll fit the bill. I'm not ready to drive a CR-V yet. The Alfa can't be bothered to do the dirty work.

No driving was allowed at this event, so the only way we got a sense of this was by donning a helmet and riding shotgun around a racetrack with former Formula One driver and current Subaru rallycross ace Scott Speed
Was Subaru just not confident in their car? Are these pre-production cars and meant just to show that it could be, but not what will be?

It is a pre-production model so maybe that is why. The final specs weren't even released yet. I am hoping the 271 hp figure is for regular fuel rating but who knows. The styling has grown on me a lot, I think that dark blue looks really good.
