Ah the 11-14 dilemma. Pay $24000/$32000 for a beat WRX/STI, instead of paying 26000/34000 for a brand new unmolested one that's better in every way...hrrrmmm

I'm actually looking more in the 17,000-20,0000 range for a good condition used one. And I don't like the 2015+ as much as the 2011-2014. (But is there a better thread to have this convo? I don't want to hijack this thread) |

Well the sti is out if that's your price range. Unless you want a high mileage 08 or something.
Back to your original question, for 11-14 the differences between the WRX and STI. WRX is 265hp, STI 305hp but they actually Dyno pretty close to each other and the WRX is basically just as fast in a straight line. The important difference is between the WRX 5 speed and STI 6 speed. The STI 6 speed can take quite a pounding and stands up to launching much better. If you plan to drive hard the sti is definitely the way to go. Also the STI has front and rear limited slip differentials. The WRX has open diffs.(02-07 wrx's do have rear last but they dropped it in favor of stability control in 2008). Since this is the 2015 thread I'll mention the 2015 WRX 6 speed, it pretty much the same strength as the 5 speed but cable actuated and with some carbon syncos to make it a little stronger, but it's still no STI. The sti also gives you DCCD so you can control the front to rear torque split. Brembo brakes, 5x114.3 bolt pattern with beefier hubs vs 5x100 for the 02-14 WRX. 2015 has 5x114.3 like the sti and also has larger brakes than the 02-14 WRX. Of course if you go sedan you get the giant STI wing, the hatch's look the same apart from the wheels and brakes. STI also has si drive with I, S and S# driving modes. If you go 2015 WRX you get the FA20 which has better torque delivery and gives you the best mpg of any WRX, but the ej's are more fun to wring out and sound better even with equal length headers. In summary buy a bugeye for $5000 because it's just as good as anything else and get yourself a nice daily driver to go along with it. Last edited by Celery GT-5; 08-06-2017 at 04:33 PM. |

New owner
Hi, im from bakersfield, CA and i just purchased a 2016 subaru wrx premium. It has 19000 miles on it but i am concerned because it has a AEM intake on it. I purchased the car from our porshe/audi dealership in town. Should i be worried about this part voided any warranty or any damages to my car?

did it come with something called an "access port" that may connect at the OBD2? If not, you may either be on a tune for the intake or worse, you may be on the factory tune with an aftermarket intake. are you going to modify it or leave it alone? |

I can’t seem to find it so I’m probably in the wrong place. Has anyone had success putting a Cobb catback for the 11-14 sedans on a 15+ STi?

I had the same dilemma and wound up getting a brand new wrx for $28,000 PLUS TAX = $30,000 out the door (premium model) A base STI is like $36,000. Add in some awesome BS dealership fees + tax and you are looking at close to $40,000 for a brand new base STI. Keep in mind, the second you pull out of the dealership lot with a brand new car, it depreciates a couple thousand dollars. If I had to do it all over again, I would def have gotten a used STI. The majority of wrx owners regret not getting the STI when they had the option. Those who defend WRXs are either in denial or do a trunk/wing swap to fool others (and themselves) into thinking they have an STI. Just do a lot of research, searching, and thoroughly inspect a used car before you buy it. If you have patience, a clean used STI (rare) will come your way. If you do decide to buy brand new, I recommend going through truecar.com You can get a new car at the lowest price possible and reduce dealership fees. |
