Default Adreneline Motorsport UK announces Murtaya Roadster - Merged

Not a lot of information on this car yet but here's what I could turn up
Company website underdevelopment

Quote:
The first car, currently codenamed AMS 1, is due to be unveiled at the Newark Car show in June. It will utilize the running gear of the Subaru Impreza (6 times winner of the World Rally Championship) and will be a four wheel drive, 260 brake horsepower two seater sports car.
...
Talking about the new car, Neil said: “We wanted to design an alternative to the traditional production mainstays, such as the Mazda MX5 and Audi TT. Offering a Subaru based vehicle is currently a unique proposition in the kit car market, which is still dominated by minimalist sports cars like the Caterham 7, and replicas of traditional performance icons such as the AC Cobra.

“Instead of this, we will be offering a contemporary design with turbo charged four wheel drive underpinnings, giving buyers the chance to get something truly different. It will appeal not only to those who wish to build their own, but also to people who want something different than the mass produced sports cars.”

Customers will be able to purchase a kit of parts which, when combined with an Impreza donor vehicle (which can also be sourced by Adrenaline), will allow them to build their own car. Alternatively, the company will build ready to drive fully built cars to the precise specification of a customer - including an option of up to 350 horsepower. The cars will sell either as a complete turn-key vehicle starting at £19,000 or as a comprehensive kit of parts for the homebuilder from £9,000.

Neil continued: “We can supply a fully trimmed vehicle complete with hood or hard top that’s designed as a viable everyday transport. A car like that will be based on a 260 horsepower donor vehicle ensuring that performance will be blistering whilst still offering practicality. Alternatively we can also supply a fully stripped out lightweight vehicle designed for occasional road use as a second car, and to appeal to the rapidly growing track day and race market.”

Performance of the entry level model: 0-62mph under 4 seconds, 260 bhp, 900kgs.

Top specification: 350 bhp, 850kgs.

That is cool. I hope they bring it to the US someday (even though kit cars might be exempt from some street-going legal requirements, making it "practical" to import from the UK???).

Wow thats awesome. It would be fun to get the kit and source out all the parts from the drivetrain for it...

Got an email back from the company and they plan to make a left hand drive version.

Should be easy enough to get them in the US. With most, if not all states, kit cars are registered as kit cars and the only regulations would apply to the drivetrain used in them(emissions would be for the year/model the drivetrain came out of). The only tricky part can be getting them insured, not all companies will handle kits and you may pay a little more.

A lot of creative thoughts on an Impreza based two seater from the UK.
First the Prodrive P2 and now the AMS 1.
Looks like Subaru should have paid more attention and bought the MG factory
before the Chinese did.
Not that Subaru need the MG brandname but the knowledge of making an
anglo inspired two seater.
So chaps, lets name it the B2.
Jolly good, jolly good!

A 2 seater roadster based on STI running gear would be tons of fun...maybe a nice halo car for Subaru if done correctly.

Pretty cool, but I'm still waiting for someone to come out with a decent mid-engined RWD kit for the Subie.

does anyone else think this thing is as cool as i do? for 33k fully built your getting a blazing fast car that (from the sketches) looks super hott and with the right suspension setup will handle like an elise. hopefully the company is reputable and there won't be problems like with the K1 attack.

Little bit of new info posted on their website. They're saying 900kg(1980 lb) curb weight and $27,000 on the road build it yourself price(by todays exchange rates). Full website is supposed to be up in June.

1980 lb and a conservatively tuned EJ257 would move.

well its gonna have a ej20 of some kind stock which is more than enough to make it move. too much power would be a bad thing in a car that small. an ej25 or even a ej207 with a twinscroll turbo would be an amazing setup on that thing. 300ish whp and insane spool on a light chasis... would destroy most things on the road.

im hoping for a removable hard top as well!!

It's a kit car, it's gonna have whatever the builder decides to stick in it. The road ready version won't be sold here. They'd have to go through federalization in that case, which is to expensive for a kit car manufacturer to go through.

i sent them an email a few days ago with a few questions and i got this back so i thought i would share it all with you

"If you would be so kind as to supply your postal address I will send you some more information, and will also keep you informed as we release more printed materials in the run up to the official launch and naming in the summer.

We will be taking deposits for this years production very soon as the demand has been huge, with the first deliveries of kits to take place in August and factory built cars in September.

The car is based upon the engine and four wheel drive running gear from the Subaru Impreza. Engine options range from 150 bhp normally aspirated through to turbocharged 300+bhp!

The suspension and brakes come from the Impreza donor (although with modified spring/damper combinations).

The standard fully built car will offer 260bhp with a total weight of 900kgs. When combined with the four wheel drive this combination provides stunning acceleration and handling. Performance for this model sees 0-62mph despatched in 4 seconds, with the more powerful variants dropping this figure into the 3's. However it is not only the straight line performance that will impress, the four wheel drive provides immense levels of grip and the handling is superb. The overall driving experience is epic, fast, communicative, enthralling, and totally addictive.

As a self build project a realistic on the road price for a nicely finished car will be in the region of £15k, with part and fully built options from us starting at around the £19k mark. Donor vehicles can be sourced by Adrenaline Motorsport to any required specification, or builders can source their own cars (one customer has his old written off Impreza sitting in the garage waiting for transplanting into his new car!).

The AMS1 is a car that has been developed by passionate car people for passionate car people, and the ride, handling, induction and exhaust note all reflect that passion.

It will be equipped with a soft top and an optional hardtop will be available. The build specifications and trimming options will be totally open for the customer to choose, from stripped out road racers through to fully trimmed civilised vehicles. The only thing that will be common to every car will be the huge grin that the owner has each and every time they take the wheel.

The pictures of the finished car will only be released nearer to the official launch in a few months time as I wish to keep it under wraps until the launch, however I can say that the car looks far better in the flesh than in the artists impressions. The proportions provide an agressive stance with real prescence. The full and final specifications and price lists will also be released at the same time."

Awsome.

I've been wanting Subaru to build a true sports car/convertible, looks like this may be the answer for me. For the past couple years I've actually been keeping my eye out for a Subaru based kit car. If everything pans out like they are stating, it looks good and decent manufacturing quality, I think I'm gonna get one.

The Saker is cool, but it's RWD and $45,000 for just the rolling chassis. For something RWD and that expensive, I think I'd rather get an Ultima GTR, or just save some cash and get a Factory Five GTM when it comes out.

thats the first ive seen on the saker. interior looks VERY cramped which wouldnt make for a good street car. i still think the ams1 would be a better choice if everything turns out as planned. AWD, convertable and obviosly price make the ams1 a better choice for a street car, at least in my oppinion.

ive been looking into kit cars for a while now but never researched much on insurance. how would you get this thing insured?

You usually get them insured for their stated value(stated by you). A lot of the major companies will cover kit cars, you just have to jump through a few hoops(send pictures, etc for the underwriters).

Exactly. IMO AWD takes much of the fun out of a convertible.

The GTM is out and available, three were at the open house last month. Hope you're a small person bcause I could barely fit in it, and felt extremely claustrophobic. And could not see anything. Dissapointing as I was looking forward to building one.
