Turbo Back Exhaust ?s
Has anyone done a tubro back exhaust for the STi yet? Do you get any good gains? do you lose Hp and tourqe? The Turbo XS exhuast claims they get about 27 more hp and about 13 more tourqe. Any info would be great. Now back to some more research! Thanx

I think doing some basic research will reap big dividends.
A couple of important things to consider are noise level ("straight-through" exhausts will produce more power and generally more noise)....this can be real tiring if it's your daily driver. Where do the advertised power gains occur and are these gains at the expense of removing some/all of the cats or replacing them with high-flow cats which MAY not last as long or meet emission standards depending on their quality and design ? (not a good or responsible idea for day-to-day street use in my humble opinion). If you're going to mod the car to much higher power levels anyway (i.e much higher than the stock figures) you will probably need a full 3" (at least) turbo-back exhaust. If not, just be careful about what you choose and why. I added a 3" cat-back exhaust to my modified S4 (~320 bhp and 365 lb/ft torque) and whilst it opened up the power delivery at > 5000 RPM I lost a noticeable amount of low-end torque....which, for me, compromised stop-and-go daily driving. The new Turbo XS RFL-Ti exhaust with the straight-through muffler (the one which gives the 28 hp gain) is EXTREMELY loud (compared to stock) by all accounts.....but again this is all relative and the noise gain may be totally acceptable to you. |

The TXS TBE with Ti muffler maybe loud, but one must understand that the video displays the catless TBE. The cat muffles the noise quite a bit. So if you don't go catless, your's won't be as loud. The 27hp gain was made with cat.

I agree, but some of the threads I've read are for the high-flow-cat equipped version of the turbo-back..........and people have said it is VERY noisy compared to standard.

I have the TurboXS RFL TI with high flow cat and a Perrin short ram and it is loud if you get on it. If you keep it around 2k it is ok though.
The performance of this car makes me giggle. |

ask rlavalle about his Hayward and Scott turbo back, it sounds amazing. Just like a rally car minus the ALS.

I did the Invidia downpipe and the HKS carbon TI exhaust recently and the gain is significant. No dyno, sorry, but above 4000 rpm, the car really screams. Didnt notice any loss in torque down low. It is louder than stock, but it does not drone on the highway. However, it does growl when you take off from the stop light if you don't take it easy. You'll want to short shift if you see the po po.

Go to www.rallyperformance.com and look around for their Scooby Sport exhaust page, the sound clip should be the Hayward and Scott/Scooby Sport turbo back. H&S and Scooby Sport have since parted ways but you can still get the H&S system direct or from Rally Performance.
