NAPA has cabin filters too. Part # ATM3603006. They cost about $17 at my local NAPA. They have them in their computer as only fitting the 2003 - 2004 WRX, but it's the same filter for almost every model year Impreza.

if you need any help you can Instant message me and i can walk you threw it. Its really simple. You just take out the glove box (about 8 or something screws) then you unplug your glove box light and take down the glove box and move it out of the way. Then you will see a white box. There will be a door on it, you just swing it up with your fingers and pull the filter out. You will have to bend the filter out but its no big deal. Really, just go for it, you really cant mess this up all that much. Let me know

Haha, you kno wthat is how a dehydrator works. Put some strips of beef on a filter with air blowing through and you'll have beef jerky in about 8 hours.

When the humidity is high, your trapped contaminants will re-hydrate and then you'll smell musk and mildew...

45k miles and my first change. It was a simple 9 screws and 15 minutes.

easy work!
in case you don't feel like looking at other directions/links (although the one a few posts up is pretty good and is the one i ended up following):

- 9 screws (5 around the front edge, 2 inside the glove box, 2 are underneath), and 1 clip (along the side of the glove box by the door.
- there's a white box looking thing above the black fan. pull off the cover on the bottom. there are 2 tabs. (if you press that above part in, you'll see one of the levers (the inside/outside air) on the control panel slide back and forth).
- in there you'll see the filter. however, in my case, when i pulled the cover off, THERE WAS NO FILTER... so this ended up being more of an install than a change...
- anyway, change out the filter, you may have to scrunch the filter down like an accordion or a fan kind of thing to get it to fit behind the wires. then put the white box cover back on.
- put the glove box unit back on, and do the 9 screws and 1 clip.

15 min to do. what took the longest amount of time was me getting over there being no filter in there to change out...

i would submit a pic of the old filter, but like i said, no filter...

I replace the cabin air filter 2x a year. Once in April and once in October. It gets that dirty like the OP's pics.

Replace it and you'll also freshen the air in the car, so-to-speak.

iirc, i read somewhere that 02-03 possibly 04-05 cabin air filter was optional. 06-07 is standard.

Get back into teh SCIC...who said you can come out?

i need to replac mine. let us know how the ebay filter one looks.

i'm contemplating making my own with HEPA from walmart. it filters much better, but that also means i'll need to change it more often.

Same here. 50K miles and never been changed, could be disgusting. I wonder how bad it was in my WRX that had 70k on it including 2 years in the Vegas desert.

mine doesn't have one either, apparently.
Did the 97 MY come with one?
How do I get to it? I know the glove box layout is identical to that of the 98-01 2.5RS.
