Default Possible causes of valve noise!!

Hi! My '05 Impreza RS (automatic transmission, 160k+ miles) has developed what I understand is valve chatter/noise/pinging/rattle, which happens when the car is being accelerated between 40-60 MPH. If I let go of the accelerator, the noise stops. I have not changed gas octane ratings (always 87), and there's no ECU light on when it happens. The car is up to date with regular maintenance. I have not taken it to a mechanic yet.

Any help or opinion on what may be the causes is appreciated!

The absolute easiest thing to do is run 93 for a couple tanks to see if that rids the pinging. If it does, you're getting some pre-detonation. If it does nothing, play on.

Injectors in these cars are wicked noisy, but would not tend to change from engine speed or load.

The fact u have no CE lite puzzles me
Drive train/valve train noises are.....for most.....are consistent
‘They don’t come and go’
The noise will be heard at startup and then get louder as the engine RPM gets higher

How did u come to understand the noise is valves?
